I want to go into NYC alone with my friend to see a concert at Madison Square Garden but there's one problem. My dad was already going with his friend to see the concert and gave me two extra tickets for me and a friend. I am going to talk to my dad about someone going there alone with my friend (he has a license and we could maybe take the train in) I think he thinks that we're all going together but I don't want to come off as a loser to my friend. I've never gone to the city by myself before and neither to Madison Square Garden. The concert is at 8pm so it would be over probably around 11 so I would be kinda nervous walking the streets of nyc late at night. What should I do???

Friends come and friends go But your dad's there for life. Quite honestly in not going with your dad you're exhibiting age -appropriate selfishness . In an effort not to be seen as a loooozzzzzzerrrr to this friend of yours ,you're going to be ruining your dads enjoyment of the concert. He will worry about you until you safely arrive at MSG and he will worry about you until you safely return home. Your call

I don't know exactly where you are coming from. I read alot of I think he thinks, and you should be able to talk with your dad about what he really thinks. Keep in mind that the cost of parking in NYC is horrendous, so going all together may not be "being a loser". Is your impression to your friend that important that you would want to spend more money and have less safety? Go with dad-have some fun.

Well my dad worried about me when i went to nyc and i'm in my thirties..dad will worry about you your whole life lol.

Your dad might say n.o. when you tell him you wanna go with your friend.. because.. youve never been there before, and it will be 11 or so when the concert is over.

Is your friend 18?..if he/she is 18 and has been to NYC more than a few times and knows it well, then maybe dad will let you do this..

I think it would be best -safer-if you went as a group with your Dad. Your friend wouldn't be much of a friend if he/she judges you for going with him. Your not truly ashamed you have a Dad or so self serving you can't go out with him after all he's done for you all your life -are you? I sure hope not.
A lot of people would be happy to have a Dad who would go places with them-be grateful for what you have. My Dad was the worlds worst Father, Abusive, Argumentative and pure Evil. Yours actually sounds decent.

You won't look like a looser going with your dad. You'd look more like a looser if you got lost and scared and started crying which will happen if you go wandering around NYC at midnight trying to find your way home. You'd be surprised how many kids would be thrilled if their dad cared enough to go to a concert with them. Show your friend you are cool enough to be seen with your dad because he's cool and be proud that he would take you somewhere. I would love it if my dad were alive to take me to a concert. I think I'm cool enough that I could handle it. Are you?

I stay here, and Madison sq. backyard is ONE BLOCK from Penn Station that's the place you will get on the LIRR to pass out to long island. this is brilliantly lit and crammed with human beings, extraordinarily around 11pm, so which you would be greater desirable than nice. do no longer hassle approximately it in any respect, the worst that would desire to possibly ensue is you ought to hear a saxophone participant. perchance eat a warm canines. this is crowded on that block. This exchange into your superb answer. Love, Snag
