What is served. At a lunch date you meet for lunch. For a coffee date you meet at a coffee shop. Coffee dates are usually shorter than lunch dates.

Coffee dates are easier to get out of - where as with lunch you have to sit there for an hourish.

Coffee = if I don't like you I have a quick exit out (always good for first Internet dates).

Lunch = I am interested and I would like to talk to you in person for about an hour to get to know you.

They are both low pressure dates. You use them when you want to ask a girl out without the pressure of asking her to dinner. There is not much difference. A coffee date can be looked at as either cheap, or as "I wanna talk." Lunch date can be looked at as a friendship thing.

I'd assume that lunch would take longer than a coffee date. A coffee date to me says that he or she is playing it safe.

Good luck.

a lunch date you eat, whether in a diner, fast food place, restaurant or from the street corner vendor of hot dogs - & you can go dutch - a coffee date is when you ask her what her preference is and bring it to her at work (unless you go to a coffee shop - then it's more like a brunch date) but you still pay since you invited.

ok, this from a guy, lunch is all business. doesn't mean he doesn't like you but lunch is impersonal. coffee is the equivalant to saying, "let's spend some of our free together", - more personal.

-edit- just read the post above mine, that explains a lot. LOL... (why guys and girls have problems etc)

it depends on how well you know the other person. I once went on a coffee dated the went in to a dinner date. It went well but I am not longer with the gentleman we talk but that is about all.

A coffee date is quicker, cheaper, and easier to get out of early if things aren't going so well.
