My eyesight isnt that good either. Its 14 positive and I sit very close to TV when I watch it. How long should I watch it for?

Every eye doctor I've seen for the past 10 years has told me the same thing.. And it seems confirmed by folks on the web as well.. You can get as much, if not more, eye strain by too much reading or sewing, needlepoint, playing video games, reading the computer monitor OR anything that you have to focus on for long periods of time. So turning off the television to open a book isn't doing your eyes any good. But getting up, walking around, maybe listening to a CD or book on tape might.

If you're watching for news, you don't have to watch at all. just listen. If you're watching for entertainment, you're better off not watching at all. Go to a movie or read a book. Or even watching paint dry is more entertaining than anything currently on tv..

watch the news
eat carrots
take some vitamins
but don't seat so close to the TV (and not with the lights off, or so they say)

Probably no more than two or three hours a day. More than that would probably strain your eyes
