No choice. If your unit is called overseas, you have to go. Many are serving, now, in the Middle East, and were THEY surprised.

Same thing happened in Viet Nam, years ago. During WWII, the entire Coast Guard was folded into the US Navy.

No matter what branch of the military someone joins, they go where they are told, whether that be the gulf coast for hurricane relief or Iraq. Joining the military, no matter the branch, is literally signing your life away. So yes, the coast guard can be called to the front lines of Iraq or any other war. But, typically the coast guard is a last resort.

The Coast Guard goes where ever it is needed. Yes some are even serving in the Persian Gulf. So far only one has lost his life in action over there. Read about him below.

The Cost Guard does what can sometimes be a hazardous job and sometimes they get killed. Just like others who dedicate themselves to protecting America and her interests. They sometimes loose their lives trying to save others.

A coast guard had no choice if there is an order from the higher headquarters that he will go to war with his unit.
