Here are facts. There are a lot of them, so I need to use links.
There have been natural climate changes before, mostly due to the Sun. But the data clearly shows that, starting about 40 years ago, man's contribution overwhelmed the natural forces that controlled climate before.
This is a nice picture, includes the effect of the Sun, and there are many more scientific studies showing the same thing.

The scientific equations don't work for other explanations. The numbers come out wrong. Most questions are answered here:

The world is deffinately warming. The question is, is it because of us burning fossil-fuels? or is it just a natural cycle the planet goes through?
There was talk of global cooling in the 70's. I was born in 73 and being that young I was never aware of the issue. Was the movement as big as the current global-warming movement? Other than maybe having crappy weather for a few years straight, I wonder what scientific proof they had then of this global-cooling? Was it causing a change in weather patterns and intensity? Was it wiping out entire species and destroying crops as the global warming we have now is? Historically, the world has had cold and hot periods. Like someone wrote above, they were growing grapes in England and Greenland was warm and pleasent enough to have Vikings settle there and then cool off enough to make them give it up.
When we ask scientists whether global warming is man made, we get conflicting answers. How can this be? Isn't science supposed to be alittle more exact? I can understand how scientists can draw conclusions that aren't exactly the same as other scientists, but to have completely opposite views? Marshall McLuhan coined the phrase, "the medium is the message". In the case of global warming studies, you have to look at who is paying for these studies, and even further, what are the media's interests in this issue. It's sad to think that scientists are no better than politicians, lawyers and used car salesmen. What if Galileo were to have conformed to the wishes of the Catholic church and stayed silent about something he knew was true? Galileo was tried for heresy because he published a book that went against what the bible said by stating that the earth revolved around the sun, not the other way around.
As far as global warming goes, I think the melting of the polar ice caps is like the canary in the coal mine. Scientists say that the ice has never melted at this rate before. On Ellsmere island there are ponds that scientists say have been there for thousands of years and now they are drying up. Just looking at the before and after pictures(in Al Gore's movie) of many glaciers throughout the world makes you wonder what's the water situation gonna be like when these glaciers are totally gone? Haven't they been there, like forever?
As you can see, I am totally confused about this whole global warming thing. Whether we are causing global warming or not, I know it is still no good to spew emissions into the air, except emissions that come from your body, you can't help that. Cancer is becoming more common every day. We have to stop dumping so much crap into our water and air. Global warming seems to be the fashionable thing at the moment but there are alot of other environmental issues that need dealing with.

First and foremost, keep in mind that any intellectually honest person will tell you that global warming is occurring. What is up for debate is the cause of the warming. Al Gore states it is human-induced, while numerous (and I mean NUMEROUS) scientists disagree with this assertion.
Global warming has been occurring over the past 30 or so years (since around 1975), however prior to that global cooling was occurring (approx 1945-1975), and of course prior to that it was global warming (1900-1945)..see any pattern here?
Read the following article on the threat of global cooling (it's only a page long so no excuses) that was originally printed in Newsweek:
http://denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
After reading this article, did you notice how similar the predictions are to the current hysteria?
Do a little historical reading and you'll get to the bottom of this issue. If you are actually interested in the truth, look into how the Vikings were able to establish a settlement on Greenland 1000 years ago. Look into how grapes were grown in parts of Scandinavia where they can't even grow today (it's still too cool). Look at the melting of the polar ice caps on Mars (how are we causing this?). Look at weather during the 1930's in this country (25 of 50 states had all-time record highs during this decade, while only 6 states have recorded their all-time high since 1990, yet aren't we supposed to be warmer than ever?). Look up the New England hurricane of 1938 which hit the Conneticut/Rhode Island coast killing more than 500 people (have any Cat 3 hurricanes hit that far north recently?).
The problem with people who embrace the human-induced global warming hysteria is they have no idea of what has happened in the past. Do a little independent research on both sides of the climate change debate and you will likely see that the Earth has gone through climate cycles before humans walked the planet (how many ice ages have we had and what is the frequency?) and will undoubtedly go through changes after we are gone.

I've followed the development of the scientific research--and have a technical background--so I know how to seperate the legitimate stuff out (though that isn't really hard).
There is no question that global warming is real and that it is beginning to create limate changes. There's also no question that its caused mainly by human activities.
There is no "quick fix"--but the problem is definately solvable. The good news is that we have the technology to do most of that now--and even better, in ways that will lead to economic growth, jobs, etc. Not a "sacrifice" at alll (unless you are an oil company exectutive!).
The bad news is that there is so much misinformation out there and the state of science education in the US is so bad that many people honestly don't understand what's going on. And that leaves them vulnerable to the manipulations of political demagogues who will use this, as they will any pretext, as a springboard to personal wealth and power--without actually solving the problem.

The oil companies and the Bush administration are obscuring the truth about global warming. A White House chief of staff was caught altering climate reports to make them look less serious. Philip Cooney the former White House chief of staff was caught red handed so to speak, because the scientists knew their reports had been altered. He resigned and immediately went to work for Exxon, are you surprised? These are the same tactics used by the tabacco comanies 40 years ago. They denied that their product was harmful and even enlisted doctors and scientists to say that tabacco did not cause cancer, heart disease, emphysema, etc.
If they have the truth why do they feel compelled to lie about it?
I almost forgot this isn't the only time this administration has been caught lying on this subject. There was a guy by the name of George Duetsch who was appointed by Bush to oversee reports from NASA. He resigned when scientist at NASA did a little research and found out the guy had lied about having a degree from Texas A&M University. This jerk was censoring scientific reports on global warming.
Dr James Hansen who is a NASA scientist whose field is climatology said, "On climate, the public has been misinformed and not informed, the foundation of a democracy is an informed public, which obviously means an honestly informed public. That's the big issue here."
Why does lowering emissions on cars and factories not make sense to conservatives? I just don't get it. The World Health Organization has reported that 2,000,000 people die every year from smog related illnesses. That means the stuff coming out of tail pipes and smoke stacks kills people. Yes even Dick Cheney is vulnerable to the affects of CO2 in the atmosphere in the form of SMOG.
I suggest that anyone interested in more on the subject should read Chris Mooney's book The Republican War On Science.
I got two thumbs down? Why? Everything I said is the truth.

Global warming is a crock as it is being presented. A google search on "modern ice age" will show as late as 1970 there was a "global crisis" about greenhouse gases supposedly causing a new ice age. Global temperature has increased by an insignificant amount when measured over the span of time. The earth has shown it has gone through several temperature changes, all without the evil SUV's of today. Consider the fact that Mars is currently having it's own "global warming" phenomenon http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0oGklRNfZBG2x4AD7FXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE4NzlqMTVxBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMTAEY29sbwN3BHZ0aWQDREZENV8xNTIEbANXUzE-/SIG=126a27l3h/EXP=1183960781/**http%3a//www.heartland.org/Article.cfm%3fartId=17977
so how is mankind to blame for that?

Go to your local library and find a copy of the June, 2007 "National Geographic' magazine. Its cover story is about 'the big thaw". On page 61, this highly-respected publication states (and I quote):
"Meanwhile, if global warming continues unabated, the coasts could drown. If vulnerable parts of the ice that blankets Greenland and Antarctica succumb, rising seas could flood hundreds of thousands of square miles - much of Florida, Bangladesh, the Netherlands - and displace tens of millions of people.
The temperature threshold for drastic sea-level rise is near, but many scientists think we still have time to stop short of it, by sharply cutting back consumption of climate-warming coal, oil and gas. Few doubt, however, that another 50 years of business as usual will take us beyond a point of no return."
This is one of the most informative articles I've read (including many others in previous National Geographic issues). I would encourage any proponent of global warming to use this article as his or her argument for trying to create awareness of the seriousness of this problem. I would encourage any skeptic to read this article for his or her own information, education, and enlightenment. -RKO- 07/08/07

If you desire to acquire provide cash for local weather study, do you believe that you can get a cheque should you say," I want the provide, as I believe that I can turn out that the figures that the present paradigm is centered upon are unsuitable" ? The pleasant environmentalist, David Bellamy, has been silenced, and refused airtime. There continues to be no tested causative hyperlink among the quantity of Co2 within the surroundings, and an develop in worldwide temperatures. The WWWF graphics of the polar bears swimming have been taken within the Arctic summer time; whilst the ice cap in part melts, as they could not rise up to picture within the iciness. The ice used to be too thick! The East-Anglian uni study figures. "Oh! The figures do not fit our expectancies. Oh good. Keep quiet. Because we all know that we're correct." When the notion, and the religion is extra fundamental than squarely going through the reputable doubts of plenty of non provide-supported scientists, technology has been superceded by way of devout zealots. As Oliver Cromwell colourfully mentioned." I pray thee, within the bowels of Christ, bear in mind that thou mayest be unsuitable."

Global warming is a big threat!! OK, we all can argue that it is caused by human or not, but the globe is indeed warming!! People think it is a matter of politics, but they are dead wrong!! It is a matter of humans future existence!!
There are people who care about the earth, I am glad you stand firm with your belief.
We all have our responsibilities to make this earth a better place to live for generations to come.
Doing nothing is not an option!! (to those ******* who deny global warming)

Man-Made global warming is a lie. The planet has been heating and cooling since the beginning of time.
Mars has been warming a lot lately.... what exactly caused that?
The sun also warms and cools. Oceans warm and cool. When oceans warm, they release more CO2.... aka PLANT FOOD!
The majority of scientists do not believe man caused Global Warming.
The Global Warming movement is a ploy to completely destroy the middle class, leaving only the very rich and very poor.
The earth has not warmed AT ALL for the past 10 years. Antartica has been getting colder, and the ice is getting thicker.
