Planetholiday.com seems legit, you can check its IATA number on IATA website if you want. The prices are high compared to what I can find on either www.asiarooms.com, www.kayak.com or www.sidestep.com And their 5-7 percent rewards system does not offset the prices.
www.asiarooms.com is a good site, I found it last year linked from www.bangkokpost.com, a reputable english paper in Bangkok. Bookings are not instantaneous, in Asia they take 18-24 hours before you get a confirmation. The cancellation credits are a bit slow but, they are accurate and take maybe up to 3 days for the credit to be confirmed and credited to your charge card. I have been using this site since last year for a couple of trips to Thailand and have had no problems. They have hotel reviews on most of the hotels that help you decide.
www.kayak.com and www.sidestep.com are flight, hotel, auto rental search engines, they are okay and help you compare and find new and direct sources.
Good luck

I find local travel agents here in Thailand can usually get you very good deals. Schemes and points I'd be wary of. I've lived here 3 years, travel around a lot.
Tony's Resort good value for money I think in Phuket, which is one of the most expensive places in Thailand; beware of places very far away from the area you want to visit, as taxis there are higher than anywhere in the country. 100 baht for minimum ride.

I had used www.AtAsiaHotels.com for most of my trips, including Thailand. They are real-time and you get hotel voucher instantly. The rates are pretty ok, I had a very good deal on my previous trip to shanghai.
