Obviously, other things can make dogs bark a lot such as someone they know comes home, other animals, wanting water, things like that. Maybe they see a rabbit or a cat or a bird. BUT...I do know that dogs have been known to act strangely and seemingly bark a nothing at all, in particular friends of mine. The dog belonged to their elderly father. He passed away a few years back. Every once and a while, the dog stands suddenly, looks to a place the elderly grandfather used to sit or stand, wags his tail and barks in a friendly manner. True story.

I've never heard that before in my life, and there would be no way to prove or disprove that.

Plus to say that every time every single dog in the world barks a lot it's because of a ghost would mean that there are zillions of ghosts everywhere.

for my culture it is true-BUT only if a lot of dogs bark at once. there could be other symptoms that the dogs bark. Hunger, thirsty, bored, answering a dog that just bark, for fun, etc.

I had an very southern black woman tell me-long ago-that someone had put a curse on me. She thoroughly believed in all of this. I asked her what could I do to protect myself. She said that I shouldn't worry. That my old dog would protect me from the evil spirits that had been conjured up. I have no idea cause I have no idea what the curse was. I knew she wanted my bf and was jealous. I broke up with him shortly thereafter and the black lady kept saying it was the curse, it was the curse. I secretly hoped the curser got him. She could have him. He was a jerk. You have to be careful what you conjure for.

my dog mostly barks at bugs. or what he thinks are bugs. and his shadow. he's not real bright. I would agree that it depends on the presence of a ghost (or lack thereof).

I believe animals can see things that humans can't. One of my cats is always trying to climb the wall looking up a something unseen and talking up a storm.
