Well my fiance's previous marriage was suffering greatly from also being in the navy. So all he did was go to the psych doctor and told him he feels like he wants to hurt others or himself. They will deem you unfit for military service. And to top it off my fiance recieved an honorable discharge instead of a medical one. Apprently they prefer to do that so they don't have to pay you medical benefits, from a medical discharge. Just an idea. It worked for my fiancee.

I would advise against going UA (Unauthorized Absense). While you can "live a good life", what most people don't realize is that they are given a Dishonorable Discharge, and that follows you around forever.
I was going to give a little advice about staying motivated, because life gets a little better once the initial training period is over, but you clearly don't want that. So, if you truly can not adjust to Navy life, you could try to get an administrative discharge for failure to adapt. I've seen it done in the Marine Corps once... but that was once in the eight years that I served. It will follow you around also. I'm not sure if it falls under a General Discharge or an Other Than Honorable Discharge, that would be something you would have to ask your admin/legal section.
Whatever, you decide to do, go through your chain of command and do it properly to minimize the impact on your post-Navy endeavors.

I agree with the previous answers about talking to your Chaplin about a mental hardship. However, as of the last instruction about medical discharges that came out last year, you have to go through quite a bit to be discharged on those grounds. They want to make sure you have a legitimate mental disorder. I am afraid that you missing your family and feeling sad about it probably wont do.

Seek help from the Chaplin. They can refer you to people who can help with hardships. If, it means going in for psychiatric counseling then do so. They can determine things you can't and if you are discharged then, you will be on a medical. If this does not work, stick it out, it really goes by quickly. Find some positive thought everyday.
Please don't do anything stupid like drugs, awol, etc. You will only hurt your self down the road and it will hurt your family even more.
Keep your head on tight shipmate you will be ok. I believe in you and you should believe in yourself.

Insomnia is considered a medical problem. In the Air Force we see Life Skills and they determine if it will affect your performance while on duty. I know alot of people who went there saying they had sleeping disorders like sleep walking and other things wrong with them and they got out on medical discharge.

My friend got booted under a medical discharge because they said she was mentally unstable. I'd really play up that card. Have a therapist evaluate you over and over and play it up. A medical discharge wont have any lasting effect on your record.
