Don't get me wrong. I do not have any Bosnian friends, only Serbian (and for the record I am Ukrainian). But as I listen to my friends ( most of who suffered immensely and lost many family members in the conflict) talk about the horrible things that the international community and the Bosnians, as well as the Mujahadeen (sp?) sent to aid the Bosnians, did to them, it makes me wonder why the Serbians claim that they are innocent when Srebrenica was allegedly witnessed by the very Dutch soldiers sent to keep the peace. 8000 Muslim men and boys were wiped from existence for simply...existing. Surely then, both sides are guilty of horrible things? I urge you to answer this rationally. I know that both sides suffered immensely and continue to suffer through the effects of this conflict.
I would like to see as objective an answer as possible. Thanks!

Lets not forget the original "shot that was heard around the world" the reason for WW1 and many of the recent conflicts in the area.

The assasin was a Bosnian working for and aided by the Serb "Black Hand Gang".

The Serbs have never had to account for their actions until now.

Ok, maybe srebrenica has happened, but 8000 is a pretty big number, why doesn't anyone say about serbian casualties, which number was much bigger than this one, I don't say that we're innicent, but, why doesn't anyone say something about crimes over serbian people, and if the dutch soldiers were there, why didn't they do anything about that

sure you are damn right. the conflict is too deeprooted in that region, many seeking revenge for their dads or grandparents. both sides were guilty, much alike in the kosovo. Anyway from the very start of the Kosovan conflict I was saying that the UCK is just a bunch of bandits. unfortunatelly Serbs decided to rather inappropriate counterstrike and started the ethnical cleansing.
once the peacekeepers leave the region, the violence will flare again, Bosnia and Kosovo respectivelly.

The number of 8000 dead people is a total lie. There was no Serbian genocide over Bosnians,on the contrary, there was Bosnian genocide over Serbs. The killing in Srebrenica was actually the murder of a few hundred bosnian soldiers who committed awful atrocities over Serbs in place called Kravice (where men, women and children were literally butchered by Bosnians) and then tried to hide among civilians. Finally justice caught them, but Bosnians tried to make a story of it and unfortunately succeeded in it.As you see, western propaganda can't teach you everything...HTH:)

First of all, let us distinguish between Bosnian Serbs and Serbia. Serbia was not involved in the massacre, and Milosevic, according to insiders who testified at his trial, was horrified when he heard of a massacre.

Second, I don't think most Serbs think that nothing happened at Srebrenica. A large number of people were killed. In fact, an uncharacteristically (for the Bosnian war) large number of people were killed. However, many believe the figure of 8000 is grossly inflated. To date, they have unearthed 2070 corpses and identified them as Muslims, but have not established how all of these people died. Were they captured and shot as prisoners? Were they civilians? Were they fleeing soldiers? Were they soldiers killed in combat? Were they killed in in 1995, or sometime before that? No where near 8000 bodies have been found. If they are found, then I think Serbs will be more accepting of the figure. However, they remain cautious because the propaganda regarding Srebrenica and the abuse of number (250,000 killed in Bosnia has been found recently to be 100,000; 10,000 killed Kosovo Albanians has been found to be 2000-3000, many by the KLA and NATO).

Third, going back to the identity of the victims, most were not captured in Srebrenica. Most fled in a column towards Tuzla (Bosnian Muslim held territory). It remains a mystery how most of the killed from this column were indeed killed. Were they captured and shot? Were they ambushed? Were they shot at during battles while they were breaking through Serb lines.

Fourth, Serbs react with hostility to Srebrenica because it is touted as genocide when it obviously is not. Genocide is always total, systematic, and involves killing women and children, not just military age men of one town. Since Srebrenica is being claimed as genocide, it is used to impute collective guilt to Serbs and Serbia (which had no involvement in the massacre) and is being used by Bosnian Muslims as an argument for the destruction of the Republika Srpska. In any case, the 8000 of Srebrenica and the allegation of genocide is being manipulated for political purposes to destroy the Serb entity in Bosnia.

Fifth, regardless of the figure of dead and how they died, it is certainly a large one. However, many Serbs are disgusted with the one-sided reporting on Srebrenica. Nobody mentions the events that preceded the killings. From 1992-1995, but primarily in 1992 and 1993, the Srebrenica "safe haven", which was supposed to be demilitarized, was abused as a staging ground for Muslim attacks on Serb villages. Naser Oric was the commander of these forces and the Dutch did nothing about it. The methods by which Oric and his forces massacred Serb soldiers and civilians were gruesome, including decapitations, exploding people, arson, throat-slitting, burning people alive. Most of the people killed were captured Bosnian Serb soldiers or very old people who refused to flee to Serbia (70s-90s year old men and women). In all, Oric destroyed over 70 Serb villages and massacred many hundreds (some sources state over 1000) Serb soldiers and civilians, despite Srebrenica being a "safe area." Serbs in Srebrenica remember those horrors well and justify the later massacre of Muslim men as revenge for the previous horrors the Muslims perpetrated over them in the same region. I also think that Oric's atrocities were planned by Bosnian Muslim leader Izetbegovic to affect a final attack (and "hopefully" massacre) by the Serbs on Srebrenica in response, and to thereby complete the consolidation of Muslim territory in central Bosnia (there was no way that Srebrenica could be a safe haven indefinitely) and get NATO to attack the Serbs.

The following is a Serb website depicting photographs (warning) of Naser Oric's atrocities, and they will convey to you the level of hatred and bloodlust the Serbs of the region had towards the Srebrenica Muslims by 1995:

You're misinformed.

No mass graves were found. They were fabricated by the enemies of the Serbians.
