Take him to the vet. If he's old enough there is a pill they can give him it will kill all the fleas, and then you can put frontline on him. But check with the vet. The pill is not expensive.

Do NOT use ANY flea/tick meds 9including shampoos, collars, topicals) on a puppy under 8 weeks old!!!!!
Only safe thing(do nOT use vaseline or other substances to 'smother" the tick, do not burn or use any other of the so called removal remedies) is to remove the ticks with tweezers (better off to have your vet do this so you don't accidently squeeze the tick during removal and release toxins into your puppy) and give your puppy a bath with Dawn dish soap and comb him with a flea comb..
As for his age if he is really 4-6 weeks old it is against the law in the US to buy, sell, adopt or give away ANY puppy that has not completed his 7th week and in some states it's 8 weeks.

As a former vet asst I would say get the ticks off of him NOW. Get some tweezers, a small old container with a lid and some alcohol (no not the kind you can drink!LOL). Get ahold of the tick as close to the skin of the dog. Pull it out. Make sure the head came out. Put it in the alcohol. Ticks are gross and very hard to kill. Alcohol will do the trick. But get those off NOW.
There's no need to give him a bath. It will NOT get the fleas nor ticks off.
Try to keep him contained somewhere for the most part so he isn't dropping fleas all around the house. Do NOT treat him with medicine yourself!! I think he may be too young to give him the OTC stuff.
Absolutely take him to the vet ASAP and they can give him a pill that will make all of the fleas drop dead off of him in a matter of minutes. Yes, you can literally see them drop off. BUT...that's only the live fleas...not the eggs they've left behind. So you'll have to get some more medicine to give him at a later date that your vet tells you. Make sure you give it on the exact date so it can kill the next round of fleas that'll be hatching by then. Good luck!!!

If your doggy has fleas and ticks, then I believe your best bet is the vet. I'm sure your vet will be kind enough to help carefully get rid of the fleas by using a tweezer of some sort, just because you said the pup is to young to be treated with some kind of flea bath using flea shampoo. I hope your puppy will be comfortable soon!

Since he is so young it is very important to get all the ticks and fleas off and the ticks need to be removed carefully so part of the body does not stay in the pup. Even though I have taken ticks off of dogs before, if I found a pup this young and it was covered in fleas and had ticks too I'd take it to a Vet to have them removed safely and to get any needed care since fleas and ticks literally drain a small pup or kitten and can make them anemic. That can kill them. Leaving part of the tick's body in the pup can cause the pup to get real sick. Look at the puppy's gums and if they are not healthy pink but look whitish, get to a Vet quick!!
A Vet can recommend what the pup needs to thrive depending on his condition upon examination. Hope your pup will be fine.

Get your puppy on frontline or advantage asap! Bad flea and tick infestations can cause anemia in dogs, especially puppies. Also, if your puppy ingests a flea it can cause tape worms. By the way, where did you get this puppy? It is WAY too young to be taken away from the mother. Most puppies aren't even sold until they are between 8-12 weeks old. It sounds like you got this puppy from a bad breeder. Take the pup in for stool sample exams to test for parasites and worms. Also de-worm this puppy . Your vet should go over all of this with you.

Definitely take her to the vet. You should do that anyway to make sure everything else checks out. They will likely recommend a better flea medication - like Frontline - that will not only prevent ticks and fleas, but kills existing ones as well, usually within a day or two. There are other less-expensive versions available (Frontline is good, but not cheap), so ask your vet for options if you need to. Good luck!

What i think you should do is go and see a vet about this because of his age i dont know whether or not they do treat young pets with medicines but there is a medicine called revolution that does get rid of ticks and fleas.

I agree your pup is too young to be treated with chemicals unless under the care of a Vet. Fleas can kill pups as well as ticks carry many diseases.
If you can not afford to get him into a Vet you might try what has worked well for me. I have applied a glob of Vaseline completely surrounding the tick with a Q-tip down to the skin which suffocates the tick, dehydrates and then they fall out on their own or easily removed.
For fleas, I have used the comb that comes with "Head Lice" treatment and when you comb the animal, the fleas get stuck in the teeth. Then I dip the comb in sudsy water, use a tooth brush to scoot the fleas out of the comb into the soapy water, dip the comb in clean water and get another load of fleas. It works very well on the young pups.
The product others have referred to for your yard and older animals is called "Sevin" dust-and is effective and affordable. Although it is safe-your baby is too young right now.
