I play softball and I always seem to get mosiquto bites. What are they and how do you get them? Does the mosiquto actuallly bite you? Any why do they itch? What is the best kind of bug spray? And what should you do to help them heal faster?

Sorry thats a lot of questions but please answers as many as possible... Thanks

The mosquito isn't actually "biting" you, it is "poking" you. It sticks its' proboscis (long thin "nose" ) into your skin (like a doctor poking a needle into you). While the mosquito is sitting on you, with its "needle" stuck in you, it is feeding by sucking your blood. If your skin gets cut or broken, anti-coagulants in your system will rush to that damaged skin site and start to slow the flow of blood, thus forming a scab. Since the mosquito needs your blood flowing freely, it "injects a chemical" into that bite area, to prevent your blood from clotting while it is feeding.
After it is done feeding and pulls it proboscis out, the wound will start to heal and that's when you feel the itch. The itch is because of those residual chemicals left behind.
The best kind of bug spray is anything with DEET in it. Try a brand like Deep Woods Off or Cutters. The DEET will prevent them from biting, the higher the concentration of DEET in the product, the better effectiveness of the spray (or lotion, or gel stick...).
To help dull the itch, use any cream or spray that has cortisone as an ingredient. It will not make it stop itching, but it may just make the bite itch less. Try not to scratch it, as soon as the mosquito pulls out, your body starts to heal, if you scratch, you re-damage the area and it will take longer to heal. (Very simplified explanation!)

Mosquitoes are insects. They nourish themselves by biting into other animals and sucking out blood. The bites itch after wards because the chemical the mosquito secretes before it bites you causes your body to release histamines. Histamines are what cause the itching. An anti-histamine such as benedryll will stop the itching. To avoid the bites try Off - Bug Spray.

yeah... mosquitoes land on you, and actually suck your blood right out of you. see?

pretty gross.... but the bumps come from an allergic reaction to the mosquito's spit, an allergy that most humans have in common. all bug sprays are about as equally effective, Raid has some of the strongest though. You can stop the itch with special cremes for bug bites they sell at pharmacies. also put some ice on it, that helps. But just itching it can irritate it, make it worse, and scab over.

hope this helps you, good luck! =]

You really ought to have paid attention during biology.

Female mosquitos feed on blood by stabbing their proboscis through your skin and sucking the blood. To facilitate that transfer of blood, there is a parallel tube in the proboscis that pumps in saliva.

It is in this way that mosquitos spread malaria, west Nile Virus and other diseases. It is also the reason mosquito bites swell and itch.

The best brands of skeeter scooter have high DEET concentrations, some being pure DEET. They are highly effective, but they are greasy and generally smelly.

mosuitos do bite - when they do a litle of their saliva comes in contact with you - the itchy bump is an allergic reaction to that saliva - for mosquitos use any bug spray - or avon skin so soft - by beware skin so soft can attract bees - you cannot make them heal faster but you need to not scratch them instead put a topical anti-histomine on them such as benedryl cream

hmmm.
The bites are just bumps from getting blood sucked outta you from the mosquito.
They only take a little bit of blood.
They replace the blood with this fluid from their body that makes you itch.
You can't die from it (obviously). It just makes you itch.
I would think the best big spray would be Easy-Off. Idk though.
..and to heal them faster, DO NOT ITCH THEM. They just get bigger, and more itchier. They don't get really big. If it is really small, it will only grow just a little bit. Like, dime sized.
Put lotion or some kind of itching cream, like caladryl or whatever to keep it from itching. Don't itch too much, it tears your skin, then it might make a blisten, or make it irritated and sore.
I hope I helped!

MOsquito bite can kill, if you are bitten by an "Aedes" Mosquito. The illness is called Dengue. It develops like a fever and will kill if no action is taken. Currently its the one hot topic in Singapore. There's even a website to promote public awareness and prevention of breeding. Go to website below.

related to mosquitoes favouring some human beings over others, I study someplace that they are great gentle to warmth and could bypass to the guy with the warmest pores and skin on the time. I even have seen one land on a heat teapot so this could be actual.
