Would you rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism?

Positive criticism is the most precious gift you can receive. I'll be saved by that any day of the week rather than be ruined by spurious praise.

Humm - black or white, eh? No gray at all? Not all praise is ruinous and not all criticism is constructive or even worth listening to. If you are saving me by telling me I'm fat and my clothes don't fit right (in your opinion) - thanks, but no thanks. I think that those praising overmuch (usually for their own edification) and those criticizing at all (unless they are the instructor in a course you are taking) need to be sure they are perfect in their actions and demeanor, as well in their physical appearance, manners, social skills, etc.

I'd rather be quietly thanked when I have done something kind; and have a friend say - "well, maybe you could have done it a little differently" if I'm off the track somehow AND if she/he really has all the facts. Gentle praise and even gentler criticism that is neither trying to "butter up" nor "tear apart" is real the answer.

Short answer: Neither.

Saved by criticism, because the you've got nothing left to lose. If it was praise, it would be worse because you've had all that and then it comes crashing down, rather than staying at the same level.

Definitely saved by criticism. It happens to be something that motivates me to do the best I can at whatever I do. It also keeps me humble and focusing more on those around me than on myself. There is hope and purpose for the person who continually strives to compete only with themselves and not with others.

good question.

proverbs says

Pr 27:6
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

so I would rather , someone be a friend and come tell me something one on one , even if it hurts my feelings for a few days , I will have more respect, and a faithful friend!
