My dad says no, but I saw some guy on ebay and he was telling me the opposite, that the cd can work with any authentic cd key. i reformatted my dad hd after getting the fattest virus in the worls (forgot the name) and he has the authentic serial number on the bottom, i just need a cd (IF the cd will work with any cd key), OR, i need to buy one (from ebay preferably, b/c microsoft sells it for 200 but you can easily get one from ebay for 70 bucks!)
thanks in advance

If you are talking about reloading your machine and you have the COA for XP Home, then all you need is an XP Home CD.

You do need the same version CD as your KEY but your key will work with any matching CD.

If this is a major manufacturers computer, Dell, HP, IBM, etc. you can probably get the restoration CD from them for a lot less than buying a retail copy of XP. You can even borrow a CD to use to install -- as long as you use YOUR KEY!

That guy on ebay was right, I guess. All cd physical are equal and can be used with legal
key for MS activation process. In case of reinstallation XP on the same pc WIN will not ask for activation process. Try to find cd from friends.
