I've read all 6 and will be reading the final one when it comes out.No they are not Satanic-there is nothing to do with religion in them. Most of the people who say they are evil have never read one.
And to the 2 people claiming the spells in them are real-well I am a Pagan and know a little about magic and have friends who know a lot about it-newsflash:The spells in the books are made up!They do not work!

It's a very moral story of good winning over evil.
There are of course no real witches and wizards who can do wonders with magic wands, even little children know it's pretend, but what they hopefully take away with them is the very good morals of the books.
Wicca and Satan worship are very real, and utterly alien to the Harry Potter world. Actually, "Charmed" presents a more realistic vision of Wicca, and could lead someone to think magic actually works.
Nobody believes magic wands actually work. The most powerful magic in the Harry Potter world is love, and that actually works in the real world too, though God doesn't pay every Friday.

The good and evil archetypes - I'm waiting to see in Deathly Hallows how that pans out.
But no, I don't find them Satanic. Christianity traditionally believes that all magic is the work of Satan, and apparently Harry fits the bill there. It's a bunch of bunk. They're good books.
And by the way, the singing character is Sirius, when Harry is at Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place for Christmas. :)
EDIT: To all those condemning Wicca and witchcraft, I am a practicing witch and you are spouting nonsense as there are no set spells in witchcraft and especially not one-word incantations. Don't even go there.

I've read all of them and they are fine. The books actually promote some good ideals like how to deal with misunderstandings in friendships, sticking together when the chips are down and the value of friendship.
The book uses a fantasy backdrop, I can't see where that is any different than Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid; nor any childhood fantasy story for that matter.

I think people who think that the books are "satanic" have absolutely no clue what they're talking about, and it's frightening that so many adults are afraid of a freaking work of fiction.
Like "SL", evidently. "the spells she use in her books are real, practiced in witchcraft." Yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight....
And the classic "I haven't read them but I know they're evil" defense.
If their kids are so easily swayed by a book and they haven't bothered to explain to their kids the difference between "reality" and "fantasy" then it's the PARENT'S fault, not the BOOK'S.
By the way, I'd like one CREDIBLE source for someone to cite about Rowling being a Witch or Wiccan. The question was asked on our Wicca discussion board and none of us could find anything one way or the other,.

I see nothing "satanic" at all about them. They're only fiction books. I've only read the first 2 (might have been 3) books and saw the movies they've had out so far and it is all about good winning over evil. I really don't think there's anything actually religious (or anti-religious) about them at all.

well, in the bible it says that god doesn't approve of sorcery and things like that, which is what harry potter is about. Somewhere in the bible (i don't remember where) it also talks about a whole city burning their books of magic to please god.
I actually enjoy harry potter, even though I've been told they are bad. For a while I stopped reading them but it was too painful not too. :)
I think that if you just read about it, an don't try to practice it or anything, you'll be ok.

They are no more "satanic" than the tv show Bewitched, which I believe many christians watched. The Bible says more about evil and death than the Harry Potter books. Is it "satanic"?

It is certainly not satanic. I didn't really like the first book so I didn't read the rest but you would have to have brain damaged to think they are satanic.
