Really, everyone who respects and obeys Jesus Christ goes from door to door to teach his neighbors about the Bible's good news. It is interesting that only Jehovah's Witnesses are so clearly identified with the preaching work; globally more than 6 million preach publicly each month.
(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.
(Acts 5:42) Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
(Acts 20:20) I did not hold back ...from teaching you publicly and from house to house
It's sad when someone who claims to respect the bible actually insults or even advocates attacking a peaceful preacher. Sad but completely expected.
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.
Really, if someone goes out of their way to disregard Christian preachers and preaching, what is he saying about himself?
(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos... “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses my reasons are threefold
1. In obedience to Christs command at Matthew 28:19-20 and 24:14.
2. Love for Jehovah God. I want others to know the truth about him and to experience the joys of a relationship with him.
3. Love for people. I want to share with them the good news of God's kingdom and give them something positive to contemplate in this troubled world.

The correct answer has been given by several already, but I felt the need to address "Jonathan" and his "answer".
You are a vicious liar, plain and simple. First of all, we DO NOT want to kill anyone or their baby! Second, you claim that 2John 10, 11 refers to Jehovah's Witnesses without even giving a reason! The FACT is that Jehovah's Witnesses DO bring the teachings of the bible, so 2John 10, 11 does NOT apply to them! We are not "a cult on an evil mission". Since when is teaching people the truth of God's word an "evil" mission? Of course, the Pharisees tried to accuse Jesus of the same thing and tried to stop his teachings from being spread. Who are you trying to imitate, Jonathan? Jesus or the Pharisees? Here's what Jesus says about guys like you;
33 “Serpents, offspring of vipers, how are YOU to flee from the judgment of Ge·hen′na? 34 For this reason, here I am sending forth to YOU prophets and wise men and public instructors. Some of them YOU will kill and impale, and some of them YOU will scourge in YOUR synagogues and persecute from city to city; 35 that there may come upon YOU all the righteous blood spilled on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zech·a·ri′ah son of Bar·a·chi′ah, whom YOU murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. 36 Truly I say to YOU, All these things will come upon this generation.- Matthew 23:33-36

some people on here rather slander Jehovah Witnesses than learn about us. we do not kill our children because of the blood. if we did take of blood, it would kill them. they could check it all they wanted and I would never take it. our magazine are not false. we do what Jesus Christ commanded us at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. we do not change your religion. that is between you and Jehovah God. we go to your door to teach you all about our Heavenly Father Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ. some turn there backs and I know of several that will answer questions about Jehovah Witnesses will slander us. if they don't come back to Jehovah, he will deal with them like he did to Pharaoh

WHEN Jesus Christ sent out his disciples, he instructed them: “As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’” (Matt. 10:7) And in his prophetic command to true Christians who would be living during the conclusion of the system of things, he said: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness.” (Matt. 24:14) What did that mean?
It did not mean that they were to build churches, ring a bell, and wait for a congregation to assemble to hear them give a sermon once a week. The Greek verb here rendered “preach” (ke·rys′so) means, basically, “make proclamation as a herald.” The idea is not delivering sermons to a closed group of disciples but, rather, making open, public declaration.
Jesus himself set the example as to how it was to be done. He went to places where he could find people. In the first century, people regularly gathered in the synagogues to hear the Scriptures read. Jesus seized opportunities to preach to them there, not merely in one city but in cities and villages throughout Galilee and Judea. (Matt. 4:23; Luke 4:43, 44; John 18:20) Even more often, the Gospel records show, he preached by the seashore, on the mountainside, along the road, in villages, and in the homes of those who welcomed him. Wherever he found people, he talked about God’s purpose for humankind. (Luke 5:3; 6:17-49; 7:36-50; 9:11, 57-62; 10:38-42; John 4:4-26, 39-42) And when he sent out his disciples, he instructed them to go to the homes of people to search out deserving ones and to witness to them about the Kingdom of God.—Matt. 10:7, 11-13.
Jehovah’s Witnesses in modern times have endeavored to follow the pattern set by Jesus and his first-century disciples.

We follow Jesus command at Matthew 28:19, 20: "Go, therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you."
Jesus set the example in how this was to be primarily done while he was on earth. He sent his disciples out by twos to different towns going door-to-door. We are the only religion doing this unpaid, and our ever growing numbers (nearly 7 million worldwide) is evidence of God's blessing on this work.

You have some very good answers from my brothers and sisters, and of course some very ugly answers from those who just want to slander us...but the slander is bound to happen...Jesus warned us that it would...
(John 15:18-19) “. . .If the world hates YOU, YOU know that it has hated me before it hated YOU. 19 If YOU were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because YOU are no part of the world, but I have chosen YOU out of the world, on this account the world hates YOU.”
(Matthew 5:11-12) “. . .“Happy are YOU when people reproach YOU and persecute YOU and lyingly say every sort of wicked thing against YOU for my sake. 12 Rejoice and leap for joy, since YOUR reward is great in the heavens; for in that way they persecuted the prophets prior to YOU.”
So, I would just like to thank those that bashed us...you have made us happy because we know that the message we carry came from Jehovah through his glorious Son, Jesus Christ. You are not rejecting us or hurting us, but your are rejecting the ONE who sent the message, Jehovah, the only true God, and his Son.
Those who think that they can be a part of this world and take part in wars and politics and use material possessions to the full, are being mislead by the ruler of this system of things...
(1 John 2:15-17) “. . .Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.”
(1 John 5:18-21) “. . .We know that every [person] that has been born from God does not practice sin, but the One born from God watches him, and the wicked one does not fasten his hold on him. 19 We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one. 20 But we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us intellectual capacity that we may gain the knowledge of the true one. And we are in union with the true one, by means of his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and life everlasting."
(John 17:3) “. . .This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”
(John 17:25-26) “25Â Righteous Father, the world has, indeed, not come to know you; but I have come to know you, and these have come to know that you sent me forth. 26Â And I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them.””

Matthew 24:14
Matthew 28:19,20
Jesus gave his disciples the assignment to preach the good news in all the world.
It isn't to convert people. It isn't to place literature (if you don't want to read our literature, we would rather you politely tell us that you aren't interested). And we don't have a quota of doors we have to knock on (everyone does what they can). We are just trying to follow Jesus's command.
