I'm a Protestant, but my favorite saint is Saint Francis of Asissi because he helps me to take care of my pets. don't worry, I take care of them myself, but my dog is cured of heartworms (with veterinary care, of course.) I believe that there are other ghosts too, not just the Holy Spirit and Saints, though.

I'm not catholic, but if I was, mine would be Mary Magdalene, 'the sinner', and patron saint of all women. I have always liked Mary and would choose her anyway, I think. She had a true friendship with the Jesus of the bible, he thought enough of her to make her one of the few earthly visits he paid when he was resurrected, and she has had a lot of bad press over the years. The church made her the patron saint of women to show their view of women, way back when, but i think the love of this Mary has outlived those old ideas :-)

St. Lawrence.
Great sense of humor. Never overdone.
God never fails to acknowledge the personal sacrifices of his witnesses (martyrs) who are most certainly alive and in heaven, and according to the scriptures, greatly honored by God:
Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held.
Rev 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying: How long, O Lord (Holy and True), dost thou not judge and revenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Rev 6:11 And white robes were given to every one of them one; And it was said to them that they should rest for a little time till their fellow servants and their brethren, who are to be slain even as they, should be filled up.

I think that is is encouraging that we may call on those that have already run the course before us and endured to help us towards the goal that they have already attained. I always think about this gret cloud of witnesses that the Bible tells us tht are around us celebrating when we overcome sin and pointing us towards sanctity through their presenting of our prayers before the altar of God. May we serve others as they serve us.
In Christ

I'm no Catholic, but I'd choose St. Joan.
She was strong.
She was killed as a witch.
She was killed by the church that sainted her later. (Ooops)
May she bloody the fields of Valhalla to the delight of the Thunder God for all eternity.
What a cool woman.
If not for the Valkyrie she would be the first archetype for the female warrior youth.

pastorart1974 cannot be a real pastor, because he does not belong to the one, holy, apostolic and Cathoilic Church (and thus, as per John 10, which explains about other "pastors" trying to get into the sheep fold in some way other than the door the GOOD SHEPHERD comes through). Anyways, all true Catholics are born of the Water and of the SPIRIT through Holy Baptism, as explained by JESUS to Nikodemus in John 3. Catholics and others with Rites going back to the Catholic Tradition alone offer true Confirmation, the sealing of the Baptised with the Anointing (1 John 2:20, 27; 5:8; Hebrews 6:2; Acts 8:12-17). This Anointing completes Baptism, as the pattern in Scripture shows. It involves real Oil - a real Anointing - that is both the sealing with the Anointing, and the laying on of hands to bestow the HOLY SPIRIT. These Sacraments have only ever been done through human agency, and without Baptism, one is not born into the Kingdom, while without Confirmation, one recieves not the HOLY SPIRIT, though HE beforehand come upon the person HE is readying for the Anointing. It was from this practice of Confirmation that Christians were so-named in Antioch. Notice that not even Saint Philip - a Deacon - could bestow Confirmation, and that the top Apostles had to come and complete what began with Baptism. The Catholic Saints all entered Heaven following the TRUE SHEPHERD, while you, calling yourself a pastor, cannot bestow Confirmation, because you have no succession from the Apostles, and, unless you were confirmed, you lack the Chrismation, and cannot properly call yourself "Christian". These are just facts.
Anyone that is not perfect but presumes he needs no perfect fraternal Intercession, is headed for a fall. They aren't middle men as we Catholics percieve them, but the best Family members to ever ask for the Prayers of.
In fact the Bible does not teach against the concept of Patron Saints. Mine is Saint Peter. There is something about his life that pertains to mine, and so he is best fit to pray for me. I strive to be as near to GOD now as he is to GOD in Heaven.
1 Timothy 2:5 may say:
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
but it doesn't say that what we are saying is false or wrong. Also, keep in mind, every sentence of Scripture is in a certain vein, but for that very reason must not be misapplied beyond the scope of its sentiment.

Shame on John W for calling those that shall never die the dead. Shame on him also for pretending that we pray to those we merely as for prayer. Shame on him, if, hypocritally, he pray for others. His prayers aren't needed. If it is usurpation of GOD for the Saints to pray for us, as requested, is he their god or something? John, next time your family member asks you to pray for him/her, remember your anti-idolatry rule, and deny that one your idolatrous interference.
We alone have True Communion, which is why you feel no communion with all Heaven. You are yet dead among the dead, and only the HOLY SPIRIT can rouse you to True Life.
The vatican no longer belongs to Rome, but, as for Rome, the common people there are like common people everywhere in this modern world. The Petrine priviledge is still the Petrine priviledge, no matter how many protestant sadducees come against it.
angeltress, when will you learn, that the LIVING LORD JESUS is the HEAD of the Catholic Church, whose Members never die, but are in unity on earth and in Heaven, and, and whose GOD is GOD of the Living, and not of the dead? So many foolish sayings come from the mouths and pens of schimatics.

A primary reason is the Roman Catholic doctrine which declares all non-Catholics to be hell-bound sinners. No, you will never hear these words from the Catholic Public Relations people. On the contrary, they will quickly deny it, labeling the accuser as a divisive troublemaker.
However, the 1994 Catechism of the Catholic Church, the official source of Roman Catholic doctrine, proclaims: "For it is through Christ's Catholic Church alone, which is the universal help toward salvation, that the fullness of the means of salvation can be obtained." Pg. 215, #816
The most current Catechism reassures us that: "…all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body: Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: …Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it." Pg. 224, #846
Question: "Are all obliged to belong to the Catholic Church in order to be saved?" Answer: "All are obliged to belong to the Catholic Church to be saved." (New Baltimore Catechism, No. 3, Pg. 93, #166)
I could not walk together with a church that contends that faith in a church is necessary for salvation when the Bible declares that salvation is a free gift of God through Jesus Christ alone. (See Rom. 6:23, Acts 4:12.)
I could never walk together with a church that would ask me to deny the words of Jesus Christ in John 6:47: "He that believeth on me hath everlasting life."
Can Protestants walk together with Roman Catholics? Only if the Protestants are willing to forsake the cardinal doctrines of their faith and deny the Holy Scriptures.
Despite all these Scriptures, Catholicism still claims that Peter was the rock and his successors are the head of the church:
"The sole Church of Christ (is that) which our Savior, after his Resurrection, entrusted to Peter's pastoral care, commissioning him and the other apostles to extend and rule it... This Church, constituted and organized as a society in the present world, subsists in (subsistit in) the Catholic Church, which is governed by the successors of Peter and by the bishops in communion with him." Pg. 215, #816
But the Bible declares that Jesus Christ, not Peter or his successors, is the head of the church: "And he (Christ) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he (Christ) might have the preeminence." Colossians 1:18
"And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him (Christ) to be the head over all things to the church," Ephesians 1:22
"But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" Ephesians 4:15
When the Bible uses the words "the church," it always refers to all those who trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, not just to members of the Catholic church: "Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord..." 1 Corinthians 1:2
The Apostle Paul wrote: "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;" Ephesians 5:25
Paul was not a Catholic (he was a Jew), yet he knew that Christ loved him and died for him. Certainly, no one would dare say that Paul was not a Christian because he was not a Catholic.
Would anyone suggest that God only loves Catholics?... or that He only died for Catholics? Such would be the case if the Catholic church was the only church.
Paul also proclaimed: "And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us..." Ephesians 5:2
As the "one true church," Catholicism claims the right to determine who is or is not a Christian: "All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church." Pg 216, #818
In other words, if you have not been baptized into the Catholic church, you are not a Christian. These are not my words, but the words of the official Catholic Catechism.
But according to Scripture, it doesn't matter if the Catholic church has accepted you or not. If your faith is in Jesus Christ alone, then He has already accepted you: "To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he (Jesus) hath made us accepted in the beloved." Ephesians 1:6

I'm sure you knew better than to ask this...I'm guessing you were just trying to get a rise out of folks.
Of course, you know that most people know better than to pray to dead people.
We do hope you will learn...Jesus is our Living Lord!
