Hi!
I'm going to the interview soon. It is very special position for me. And I'd really like to get this job. I'm not interested in money at all. I just wanna do that job. So is it ok not to tell the salary I want to the interviewer. If yes, what is the best way to say and explain?

Thanx!

Okay I use to hire for fortune 500 companies. The question might come up. They will say what are you looking for?

Say I want the job otherwise I wouldnt be here, but dont you think my salary should be based on performance? and you dont know that until you see what I can do. Why dont we leave that open for the next 90 days and then negotiate it. You know better then I do what my start should be. Then lets address it in 90 days after you see my work.

Trust me its a damn good answer.

**update**

Read a couple answer that posted while I was working on mine. Let me explain why this is a good answer. The person hiring you has an out. They have a little breathing room they dont have to over pay you but they wont underpay you. But you have 90 days to prove yourself. Then you talk salary. If they have invested 90 days in you, you have all the leverage. They dont want to retrain somebody. If you can do your job, you will get a huge raise after 90 days when you negotiate your salary.

During an interview a prospective employer typically they will ask you what salary you are looking for. Without seeming desperate, that is the kiss of death to "really need this job", answer by saying "it is hard to place a value on this kind of opportunity" then put the ball back in the employers court by asking "what is going market rate is for this type of position?"
If the answer is satisfactory, dont say anything more about it, ask another question "is there medical or dental or 401k?" or "when were you looking for someone to start?" If the answer is not satisfactory then politely thank them for their time, and be sure to shake hands for personal contact, it's important. Hope this helps and good luck!

If the company is a reputed one then they'll give you a fair salary if u keep your mouth shut. But, if not, then they might walk all over u when u give them the choice of your salary totally. SO, decide what you want to do and atleast research on what the salary should for your job should be.

if they ask what salary you want, just say "whatever you feel is appropriate for my work efforts."
