I recently welcomed a pomeranian puppy into my home and I rec'd papers with him that said he was pure breed. However, recently I have been told on seperate occasions that my dog is mixed with something. I have heard twice that he looks like a malamute. Those dogs are huge! How in the world could it of breed with a pomeranian? Any suggestions on Timmy's breed? I would love to serach so I know his character traits. I can not figure out how to post his picture. Please e-mail me so I can send it to you. Thanks!

Well I just got my papers out and wouldn't you know it they are from the Continental Kennel Club. I must have had new mommy written all over my face. I didn't know what to ask. It doesnt matter, I still love him, just want to know how he will act.

you can send me the email, if you'd like.
but I think that if you got registration papers for the dog, then it is a pure bred; I don't think you could register a *mutt*

It's possible that your dog is still a purebred pom and simply isn't bred to be the "ideal" image for the breed. That is certainly more likely with Continental Kennel Club than AKC but it sure can happy with AKC too. In order for any dog to keep that "just so" look representative of the breed, they have to be bred very carefully to other dogs who will continue that "just so" look. Ultimately, dog breeds are quite fluid and dogs can change appearance in a very small number of generations unless there is some genetic pressure applied (intentionally by breeders or happenstance by the environment) which keeps appearance static.

But yes, I think it's safe to say that there is no malamute in there.

In my adventure, the canines breeds that are the least possibly to enhance human aggression subject concerns are the Pug, Beagle, English Bulldog, and Boston Terrier. i've got no longer truly seen an occasion of any of those breeds that i might say had a severe aggression difficulty, however I even have met somewhat some apprehensive Beagles. nicely-bred Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Pit Bulls, and Greyhounds could be proper up there to boot. on the different hand are the breeds that are maximum possibly to be aggressive. I even have by no potential had a delightful adventure with a Yorkie. surely, of the 50 or so Yorkies that I even have encountered, i might say all 50 had some type of aggression difficulty. Chow Chows, Akitas, and Chihuahuas are proper up there to boot. yet, i might say that the main aggressive canines breeds are the countless breeds of Terrier from Scotland, the Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and Skye Terrier. Scotties and Westies in specific are very bitey canines.

What registry is he registered with? If it's AKC, the odds are very very good that he is what they claim.

If it's "Continental Kennel Club" or one of the other scam registries, well, then it's anybody's guess.

But based on the picture you posted, I'd say Pom. Mals are much, much bigger, and the markings are different. You may be getting that because of the size of the ears and the ring of white around the nose. The ears will probably appear smaller as the puppy grows (and the hair grows longer), but he may always have the white ring around his nose.

I'd say purebred pom, but the Cont.KC is a registry infamous for providing papers for anything the check clears for. Not very reputable, I'm afraid. In fact, they became a larger registry directly because the less-ethical breeders weren't willing to participate in the AKC's DNA programs. Wonder what they were trying to hide? However, as long as you love your little pup, and as long as you continue to ask questions and educate yourself, you're doing OK.

As far as a pom/malamute cross, it is theoretically possible. I know of a case where a chihuahua bred a rottie. They can be very creative when it comes to procreating. A good place to get to know poms and their people is on Yahoo Groups. There are groups for most all breeds.

Meanwhile, enjoy your pup. Congrats!

Looks like a pomeranian to me. I have 2 German Shepherds, both purebreds, and both app the same age (about 4 months separating them). The one we bought 1st is larger than most, almost all black, and has not short hair, but not long hair. The other one is black and tan and looks like regular german shepherds, however is smaller than normal. My friend has a long haired german shepherd and it looks completely different...all black, shaggy, and was very expensive. I am always asked if my dogs are mixed breeds but they are not. If people don't believe you, oh well. Not all dags of the same breed look the same.
Anyway, your dog is really cute and looks like an old neighbor's pomeranian that was a purebred show dog.
Hope you figure it out.

If you have papers attesting it is purebred, it should be pure bred. A malamute is much greater in size and has a head shaped way different. Take the dog to a vet and if he agrees it's not pure, take the animal back and argue the papers.

You can send me a picture. If you are concerned you didn't get what you paid for you can contact AKC.org (assuming you got AKC papers and not some other organization) and you can do a DNA test and request an investigation. The AKC routinely cancels registration on litters and puppies who are proven to not be purebred.

You have what is called the tiny toy pom. I used to have one and they are great dogs. They can be a little scared of everything, and awful stubborn about some things, but are never agressive or mean unless they have a very good reason(attacked or something like that). Good luck with your little guy!

His face is definately that of a standard Pom. I really don't know where people are getting the Malamute from because I don't see that at all.

I was able to view the photo using your link. Timmy is adorable. I think he is a pure breed. The only reason I can think someone would think he was part malmute is the markings on the other corners of his eyes.
