Let me explain. What I mean is Jesus never said it EXPLICITLY. Yes, I know about the "Son of God" but there are others who are referred to in the same way in the Bible. As for "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life", that could be interpreted as applying to a specific circumctances, time and place.
Never once did Jesus say "I am God, worship me."

Just thought when it comes to God, our basis of belief should be crystal clear.

Thanks for the (mostly) thoughful answers.

A few things:
1. As far as I'm aware of the Bible is not considered to WORD of God, only inspired.
2. John. The authenticity of this gospel as well as others supposedly written by him has been questioned.
3. "...are One" could be interpreted as one in ways and/or goals. so is the case with I AM. The point is there's always another possible interpretation, often ones that make more sense.
4. Anyone ever gave a thought about how this belief-and the Trinity- came into being? Clue: Nicaea.

Again, the point of the question stands: Jesus never EXPLICITLY said he is God. Not in the Bible.

No offense ever intended, but if you believe in something, it makes sense to find out where your belief originated from. Especially if it is 'shrouded in mystery' like this.

Thanks.

The quotes I've seen so far are just what I expected- statements that are open to different interpretations and can ONLY be justified if one has pre-conceived notions. There are even quotes that can be interpreted as the opposite-that Jesus denied his divinity.

The thing is, I've said it twice, and I'm gonna say it again: JESUS NEVER EXPLICITLY SAID HE WAS GOD. So where did the belief come from?

Dear readers, I IMPLORE you to check Nicaea out (if you haven't done so already) and see if it's the same as the "DaVinci hoax"thing.

Apostle Jeff, I NEVER said the Bible is a mystery. Neither that I imply that it came after Nicaea.
I was talking about the DOCTRINE.

I expected a simple exposition on the historicity of the doctrine and the basis for said belief.

Is that too much to ask?

I think he meant he was the PATH to God, but I'm not familiar enough to have an opinion on this. Which leads me to why did I bother answering if I don't have a reliable answer?

I could tell you the truth, but you have already closed your mind and have believed many lies. There is no mystery about the Bible. It came into being well before Nicea. You have believed that the "Davince Code" as divine revelation. It is NOT! It is a complete Hoax, pawned off to be the truth and you fell for it. You took the bait, hook, line, and sinker. The reason that Satan inspired these lies was to persuade people like yourself, who do not know the truth, to fall for them. They sound logical because it removes the divinity of Christ. If Satan can do this, then he has got you.

Here is the truth.EVERY person is a SINNER. Without the BLOOD of Jesus, there is no forgiveness of sin. Only the Blood of Jesus is good enough because Jesus lived a sinless life because He is the Son of God. The Bible is the Word of God. God preserves His Word. No man or council can change it. If God can not save His Word, He would be powerless to save us. Only when we turn from our sins and receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then we will be given the Holy Ghost. It is the Holy Ghost, God Himself, that can change us and save us from what we truly deserve.

Yashua (Jesus) is not Yahweh the father. Yahshua is the son of Yahweh. The person hidden in heaven waiting til the day to be the lamb of the world and to build the ultimate kingdom which will reign forever. When Yahshua said Him and the Father are one He did not mean they are the same being. For it is explained in the Bible when it is said that in life a man will leave the family and marry and he and his wife will become one flesh. That did not mean that they were the same being. Read the Bible and pray, you will figure these things out

Before Abraham I am was good enough for the pharisees to think He was declaring Himself God why is it not good enough for you? Let me get this right the term I AM was good enough for the phariseees to consider that he said He was God but you have higher expectations? To A Jew at the time The terms I Am, Son Of God and Son of Man were all very clear. Since you seem to be focused on the Nicene Creed rather than why do you not explain which point in it you have a problem and begin there.

Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Jesus remained silent.

The high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

"Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."

I'm not in any way knowledgable on tis subject so don't have a go at me if I get this terribly wrong!

My understanding though is that the major "faces" in any religion are prophets who spread the word about a God or Gods that are never seen. Jesus was in fact a prophet, I'm not sure he ever mentioned hiself he was the son of God, but I again plead ignorance here. I think it was always others that said it.

Jesus is the son of God, which is the 2nd part of the TRINITY. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

He did say so--------He said " I am the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." Before questioning so much, so some real studying of the Bible, It says somwherre about them being one.

You can make any of it sound the way you want, but that won't change the truth. GOD< JESUS

Your premise is highly flawed, and ignores the most basic tenets of the admittedly "peculiar" theology of our redemption in Christ.

If Jesus hadn't permitted Satan and his minions to unjustly put him to death, we would all still be eternally enslaved to Satan, and lost forever.

Jesus spoke largely through the use of parables, in order to keep Satan and the forces of evil in the dark ... to never permit them to know for sure exactly who he was ... to encourage them to follow their true, evil nature ... and to eventually crucify him.

Satan was the acknowledged "Prince of this world" and ever since Adam's fall, Satan enjoyed certain dominion over mankind, and all the earth.

He was in charge, and he was responsible ... for all the evils of the world.

If Satan ever got the idea that Jesus was really God, he wouldn't have allowed anyone to touch a hair on Jesus' head, let alone crucify him ... and we would all still be trapped in our sins, unredeemed, and destined for hell.

But Satan couldn't be sure about Jesus, and he just couldn't stop murdering, so he used the Jews and the Romans to have Jesus crucified ... and that greatest of all crimes resulted in Satan losing (among other things) all that he had earlier gained from Adam's sin.

Satan's evil dominion was destroyed, man was free, grace and forgiveness became available, and Jesus was apointed the new head of all mankind.

That's why Jesus wasn't more specific about precisely who he was ... at least until after his mission had been completely accomplished.

It was to keep Satan in the dark, until it was too late for the devil to prevent his own destruction.

Evidently, Jesus kept you in the dark, too!
