I have black hair and am thinking of putting a highlighter through it. I wear a kippa daily, i was wondering if there were observant Jews who did dye their hair and is it ok i guess.

I have never seen one, and I've been in the Orthodox community for 48 years.

I think if you were going gray, maybe you might be able to dye your hair the normal color it is and nobody would notice.

It *might* be more acceptable to Modern Orthodox rather than the black hat community. Not sure which Orthodox community you're in.

What I'd do, if I were going to do it and if I were male, would start with just a touch, just a little bit, hardly noticeable, and see how that goes. As natural looking as possible, like the sun was just on your hair a little.

If you wear a kippa daily does that not mean you are at least, somewhat observant? And if that is the case, then why are you asking us, instead of your rabbi?

But to give you an answer anyways, dying hair is not permissible for men but is for women.

Are they really that controlling? Do what you want to do, and if they don't like it, too bad.
