I am thinking about buying the new 2007 dodge NITRO...can it be fitted on factory gas? Or can it be fitted on Gas after I buy it? Would it just "never be the same" if i put it on gas?
Or.. would the diesel be anywhere near as cheap to run as gas? Not many solid answers written up about this...

What is LPG fuel?

Liquefied petroleum gas (LP gas or LPG) is a hydrocarbon fuel comprising propane, butane or propylene, either separately or as a mixture of any of them. Automotive LPG is not the same as the LPG used in BBQ bottles.

The quality of LPG for automotive use is controlled to ensure consistent vehicle performance under all driving conditions. The gas is liquefied under moderate pressure; when allowed to revert to vapour it expands 270 times its liquid volume.

This enables LPG to be stored as a compact liquid but burnt as a dry gaseous vapour. LPG is non-toxic, non-corrosive, free of lead and heavier than air. It is produced by refinery fractionation of oil or is stripped from naturally occurring Natural Gas.

Virtually all LPG used in Australia is produced in Australia. Alot of LPG is exported as surplus to Australias requirements. Known reserves of gas are far greater than those of crude oil from which petrol is derived. So LPG should remain readily available.

Since you are "Down Under" and we are in the "colonies", not many folks over here are qualified to answer you question. I have seen newer vehicles running on LPG here, but it is not common, but apparently it can be done. It used to be an option here for gasoline or LPG, but nobody asks anymore. Check with a local dealer. CNG is another option, but it is not widespread enough to warrant any serious consideration here.
Personally, if I could get a diesel, that is what I would get, mainly because of better fuel mileage. But, that , too, is mainly an illusion, because the vehicle price is greater to start, it costs more to maintain and the difference in price in gasoline and diesel is not that great.
Apparently the only option is gas or diesel.

Dude, LP is short for liquid propane. LP isnt taxed for legal roadway consumption. Diesel has no abbreviation, and is sometimes a nickel or dime cheaper and sometimes a quarter more per gallon more expensive than gasoline. Just depends on the market. I personally would go with the diesel from the perspective that at least there are more alternative ways to get diesel than there are for gasoline. so far there is no gasoline from vegeteble or animal fats. And when it comes down to it. The Government will always have diesel available to power their existence. I have never seen a substantial force of war vehicles that use only gasoline. Why? because diesel has a raw power value all that much better than gasoline.

To operate on diesel is almost always cheaper than gasoline (more miles per $). It becomes a problem if you have to go out of your way to fuel up.
