It has been over 2 months since I broke the bone, and calcification is not occuring along the injured portion. I have increased my calcium intake by drinking more orangre juice, and taking multi-vitamins. Can someone tell me a good place to find more info? My doc is talking surgery, and that scares me. I am a healthy 30 year old woman, so why am I not healing?

Do you smoke? That can totally stop the healing.

Instead of forcing your body to find the calcium in juice and vitamins, just take calcium supplements. You're at the age where you should be taking Os-cal or Viactiv every day anyway.

Delayed union or non-union (not healing) is fairly common in ulna fractures, particularly distal ones (nearer to your wrist). I am in total agreement with the answer that stated that smoking can impair your healing. But, in all likelihood, there isn't anything that you did wrong or have a deficiency that prevented the healing. Go back to your doctor and tell him/her that you are concerned about sugery and why. It is likely that he/she will be able to have a conversation with you and address any concerns or fears you may have. Even though in this day and age, doctors are busy and overbooked, your concerns about possible surgery are important and you should get your questions addressed by the doctor who is taking care of you.

The Osteoblast knits at its own rate if there is a reason for it not healing perhaps it may not be in your diet. For a moment lets say it does. Has your doc expressed concern about osteoporsis? Do you have any problems with hemophilia? Does your lifestyle encourage fluid loss? These are but a few of the problems with bone mass construction.
Surely 6 weeks should result in overlay and just to finish by saying that usage may slow it down but it will create a much stronger joint.
In conclusion See your MD get a second opinion. Resection of the apparent fracture is what the Orthopedic Doc wants to do. If he is the one that set it perhaps another might be looked into. Really Good luck with your arm .....here let me sign your cast.....Edesigner....There ya go...

Ask your doctor, not the dolts on YA!!!!

The surgery would not be so tough! Don't hesitate to have it if that is what the doctor recommends.

I recently spent a week in the hospital with severe pancreatitis, which is one of the most painful diseases you can have. Then I had my gall bladder out. Believe me, if I can take that, you can stand surgery on your arm.
