It depends on your own personal beliefs...Some Christians have adopted it as part of their doctrine; However, I personally do NOT believe it is nessesary.

The only "baptism" that is required is: "Baptism of the Holy Spirit".... and that happens when a person repents, and asks Jesus to be their personal Savior.
God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit, which manifests itself in many different ways (referring to "spiritual gifts")

*Sometimes it enables Christians to talk in tongues...
*Sometimes it manifests itself as wisdom...
...encouragement...teaching...knowledge...Interpretation...
prophecy....healing....etc...etc...

Read all about Spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines." 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Some are exempted. Those who through no fault of their own cannot be baptised by water may enter the kingdom of God through the baptism by desire.

Jesus did not say not to use water when he sent out the disciples to baptize all nations in Matt 28. Baptizo is to immerse or dip in water.
