The key is one cup of sugar to 2 quarts of water. Here's a recipe from the link below:
We in the south make the best iced tea you'll find. Maybe it's how it's done, or maybe it is the water in the south, or maybe it's just that a southern belle has put a lot of TLC into making the tea. Who knows!

We recommend Luzianne Tea Bags if available.

Place the two cups water in a pot and add the tea bags. Bring to a boil, do not continue boiling. Remove from heat and let steep. Pour warm tea into empty pitcher. Add the sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Fill remaining pitcher with cold water.

Optional - some women say they use less water and add ice to the tea.

Here's the thing, mix the sugar and the water before even thinking about making the tea. I always use 1 lb of sugar for every quart of water. Sounds like a lot, but we're talking about sweet tea, right? You can always adjust the amount of sugar based on what tastes right. The mix should be the consistency of corn syrup or something like that.
Brew your tea, the add the sugar water mix & let it steep for 10 minutes before cooling. That'll make sure all the sugar gets mixed in properly for best flavor.
You need to cool the tea immediately after steeping or the tea will get too strong. I've always added a ton of ice to it, until the tea gets to at least below 40 degrees. You could also try sticking the pitcher in the freezer if you don't want to dilute the tea. Cooling your tea quickly will also stop the chance for bacteria to grow in the tea.
Hope this helps!

okay. to warn you, this will make A LOT of tea, but i assure you...it'll be gone fast!

bring 4 cups of water to a boil. bring off of heat and steep 11 tea bags in water for seven minutes. pour into a jug over 1 3/4 cups of sugar.

that is the recipe for the tea concentrate. so if you drink it, it will be extremely strong! when you're ready to drink, add about 3 parts water to 1 part tea into a glass over ice (everyone's taste is different, you may like a different proportion). add a fresh squeezed lemon wedge and you're on the top of the world!

The way I was taught is to cook the sugar water as well as the tea, use loose tea leaves and simmer for several minutes, strain into the sugar water and chill. Pour over ice with a mint garnish and serve.

This was a special treat because of the amount of sugar required and the price of GOOD tea, (Luzianne loose tea is best), normally we just had iced tea.

Um... okay baby... there's no such thing as a dumb question so here we go....
Make the tea the way you make it usually. Then sweeten it to taste.....once you got that down sweeten it some more. You want to taste in between sweetenings so that you know when you got it right. Once you taste it and your cheeks cave in on both sides and you feel your eyes roll around in your eye that's when you know you got it right! Good luck girl!

i think of the main factor is that in case you bypass to a eating place in the north and ask for tea, you will get *warm* tea which you would be able to sweeten with sugar and upload lemon and / or milk to. in the south you will get a tall glass of *chilly* tea, the two candy or un-candy. a minimum of that has been my adventure whilst i bypass bypass to family contributors in Maine!
