Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:
John 8:54

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Mark 12:29

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me
John 7:16

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

You took the verses out of context. For example in John 8,58 Jesus says I AM, acknowledging that he is God. He also said before Abraham was I AM. How can that be if he is only a man? Read the entire passage and you will come to the correct interpretation.

Peace and blessings!

John 8:54-- Jesus is exercising humility here. He always defers to the Father. Skip down to verses 57 and 58, Jesus says that He is equal with the Father and the Jews take up rocks to stone Him for blasphemy because they don't believe Him.

Mark 12:29-- Jehovah our Elohim is one Jehovah. Jehovah is a singular word. Elohim is plural. This is an intimation of the trinity.

John 7:16-- Jesus is again deferring to the Father. I think part of the reason He does that is that He knows the Jews honor the Father. They don't really know Jesus yet, so He starts with what they know; that is that the Old Testament is the Word of God the Father. That's all they had back then. No New Testament yet.

Matthew 19:17-- Jesus is referring to the fact that the rich young ruler does not yet recognize Him as God. Right after that, He tells the ruler to sell all that he has, give the profits to the poor, and follow Jesus, because Jesus is God. The rich young ruler walks away sadly.

If He's not God, then how did He raise Himself back from the dead? No one prayed over His corpse. He just walked out of the grave. Pretty good for a man that isn't God.

The best argument I heard for this was from a Minister (Not Catholic) once. He stated that the reason there was so much confusion over it was because while on earth Jesus was flesh, as John states. So because he was flesh (hence he supposedly could enter into hell and retrieve the keys..having the sins of the world on his shoulders) he was separated from "the Father" by that flesh. However, in ascension he was lifted from the flesh and once again one with the Godhead. Even though I am not Christian, and really have no stake either way of the argument, I have studied the bible extensively, and frankly this explanation has made far more sense than most of them I have heard from the Christian religion.
For the record Catholics are not alone in that belief, in fact most Christian denomination believe in some form of it.

I have tried to show that as man was created in the IMAGE OF GOD that the family is made in the IMAGE OF THE HOLY TRINITY. Would you say that the husband is greater than the wife? or that the father is greater than the child? of course in the TRINITY we say they are PERFECT AND DIVINE FAMILY . .. they don't have selfishness or jealousy, just respect for one another . .. JESUS is meek and humble of heart . .. JESUS is also the ETERNALLY BEGOTTEN SON OF THE FATHER . .. JESUS lets us know of the greatness of the FATHER to whom we all WORSHIP. But JESUS IS GOOD JESUS HAS POWER JESUS IS WISE AND JESUS KNOWS ALL THINGS. Now we don't exault any part of a family as greater than another, as the SON is as great as the MOTHER OR THE FATHER, and in fact they are all ONE. Mother and father, husband and wife are one by virtue of the unity of the flesh. a child is united to the mother and father by being a fruit of the union. and the HOLY TRINITY being PERFECT exists in HARMONY AND UNITY. .. where ever you would find JESUS you would find also the FATHER AND THE SON . .. if you recieve THE SON you receive THE FATHER . .. and so too with THE HOLY SPIRIT you receive JESUS AND THE FATHER if you receive THE HOLY SPIRIT . .. just the way it is . .. as i understand these things . . . clearly no human mind can comprehend the HOLY TRINITY completely but i believe this is accurate.

-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.

No verses from any written work are valid unless presented in the full context from which they were taken. This tossing out of a line or two as a representation of the intent of a complete work is the weakest form of argument for or against any position based on that work.

Jesus called Himself the Son of Man (humanity) and when someone would call him God, he would cast demons out of them. Jesus is not God the Creator, nor God the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Son of God only in the sense of when he said "whoever believes in the word of God, you are all my brethren."

I think often times it is a case of refering to the trinity.
But as a Christian preacher I fear that calling Jesus, God, comes dangerously close to denying the Father.
