Take baby steps. Stage fright is more upon yourself than anything and takes time. Go into a room and bring in your closest friends and do a performance. Try a weekly basis. Eventually have your friends bring more people. Little by little. Then turn the lights down so is seems that you are by yourself.

If you are on stage focus on something at the back of the room. Feel the music, not the people. Sing for yourself and you'll do fine. Closing the eyes helps too sometimes until you become accustomed to it.

Turn stage fright into stage energy. Practice performing in front of people - over time you will get used to it, most likely. As to recording - is there any difference if you know if the recorder is on or off? You are letting a machine control your performance - it doesn't care if you sing perfectly or pitifully. Just sing like you are singing by yourself and stop worrying about the recorder. Some engineers even tell the singers to do a rehearsal take while they have the recorders off, and then record THAT take to get a more relaxed result! Relax, and you'll do fine.

I am somewhat nervous every time I perform in front of other people. Sometimes more than others, and I've been doing it for years. It's just something I had to live with and overcome. Professionals get nervous, it's part of being a performer. When I would get nervous, I used to get all psycked up and drink energy drinks and coffee, but I found out that in doing so, I just raced and still didn't do very good. I do better if i just relax and try not to think about it until I'm up there to play.

Just know that the worst you could do is fall off the stage and break your neck. You'd probably die of that, so that is the only thing to be afraid of. It's not common, so don't sweat it. Half of the people watching are tonedeaf, a quarter of them can't sing, half of them can't read music, and a quarter of them never heard the song. So really, you are the smartest person in the room. Show them up. Good Luck!

Close your eyes and pretend you're just sitting with your friends at home.Maybe they'll be in the crowd or next to you to make you feel better.Don't be afraid-just imagine how great you sound and how many compliments you'll get on your voice after the show.Be confident in yourself and smile.Picture yourself singing beautifully and you will.
Good luck =]
