I've tried to transfer video from my jvc mini dv, but the computer doesn't detect the camera. I've installed the drivers and it detects the photos, but not the video. I'm connected via a USB.

You do not need drivers - but you do need some capture software and you should be using 'Firewire' not USB - You will find a read of this article very useful and informative :-

I have a JVC mini DV, and the USB connection is just for the still photos off the memory card. The video goes out the DV connector, which on my camera is under the flipout LCD viewer. you need a "firewire" type port on your computer.

make sure the dial on the camera is on the proper mode for transferring video. also if the camera detects the photos from the camera it should also detect video.
