I would like to have green tips, but bleaching my hair is out of the question. Is there a sort of "primer" I can apply so the [temparary] color can show?

You can put it on, but it will be subtle, no there is no primer, your hair is like a sponge, and the darkest pigment, in this case, your black hair, will be dominant. Unless you bleach, which could turn your hair orange, the green will only be noticeable in a minimal way, maybe just in bright lights, but it really isn't worth the effort if you're not going to be able to see it.

I'm not sure about a 'primer' but why would you bleach your hair in the first place? Unless you are worried that the green would not show on your darker hair. My friend is mexican, and she has black, silky hair. She recently did the tips purple with a strong but semi-permanent color and it showed up great. That's all I know, really.
Good luck.

i have really black hair. nothing really shows up on it. the only time i had color show up without bleaching was when i dyed it a lighter brown and left the dye in about 3 times longer than the directions tell you to.
