My mom thinks that I have scabies, and we would like to know if there is an over the counter treatment for it?

Anything that works on mange for dogs works for scabies. If it doesn't hurt the dog, it won't hurt a person. Think bug killer. I ended up having to spray everything in the house with Raid to get rid of it. I got it from my dog.

Scabies Treatment Over The Counter

Yes, there are OTC products for scabies ... the problem with self-medicating is that you may be treating for something you don't have.

From the kidshealth website:
Scabies infections need to be treated by a doctor. Call your child's doctor or dermatologist any time your child has a skin itch or rash that will not go away, especially if the itch is worse at night and seems to center around the wrists or the webbed part of the fingers.

If scabies is suspected, the doctor may scrape a small part of the affected skin and examine the scrapings under a microscope for signs of scabies mites.

Doctors treat scabies by prescribing a medicated cream or lotion to kill the mites. The cream will need to be applied to the skin all over the body, not just the area with the rash, and usually must remain on the skin for 8 to 12 hours before it can be washed off. After applying it, don't wash your hands - scabies mites love the area between the fingers! You may want to apply the medication before your child goes to bed, then wash it off in the morning.

Most often, the treatment needs to be repeated in 1 week.

Hope that helps.

Nope, sorry. Read what I found for you:

"Scabies Treatment
Self-Care at Home
Although you cannot cure a case of scabies without prescription medication from a doctor, there are certain things you can do at home to prevent reinfecting yourself or your family.

Wash all clothing, towels, and bed linens in hot water. Do not allow air drying. You should use the dryer.
Use the medication as prescribed and instructed. Do not use it more than instructed because you risk causing chemical irritation of your skin.
You can also treat itching with antihistamine medications such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl).
Cut your nails and clean under them thoroughly to remove any mites or eggs that may be present.
Vacuum your rugs, furniture, and bedding and throw the vacuum cleaner bag away when finished.
Medical Treatment
The most appropriate treatment is for a topical medication or cream to treat the scabies and anti-itch medications for relief.

The medication most commonly used to kill the mites is called Elimite (or permethrin cream). The medication is applied from the head area to the bottom of the feet. It is left on for 10-14 hours and then washed off in the shower. It is best to apply at bedtime and then wash off in the morning. This treatment is then repeated in 1 week. This is safe for use in children as young as 2 months. An older medication called Kwell (lindane) is rarely used because it is not very safe in children and may cause neurotoxicity (dizziness, seizures). Pregnant women may receive the permethrin once or can receive another medication, sulfur in petroleum, at night for three nights.
Many different anti-itch medications are available in the antihistamine class. The most common is diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Other medications used aretriamcinolone 0.1% cream, hydroxyzine (Atarax), cetirizine (Zyrtec), and promethazine (Phenergan).
All family members and close contacts should be treated. If a child with scabies attends daycare or a person is institutionalized (such as in a nursing home or prison), then staff in contact with the person as well as others should be treated. It is best to treat everyone at the same time to avoid reinfection.
Occasionally, the rash area can become infected. This is separate from the scabies and is usually a bacterial infection. If this occurs, it is treated with an oral antibiotic or an antibiotic ointment applied to the area."

I'd say see the doc.

The over the counter medications with permethrin are 1 percent and used for lice. Elimite which is used for scabies is 5 percent permethrin and requires a prescription. Meditator

hard headed so I thought it would go away on its own but it got really worse while some of my research told me this may have been the Scabies infection. Anyhow... Here's the truth..

Scabies are contagious and they replicate very fast. It must be treated and it won't go away on its own.

Popular myths involve permethrin cream as a treatment but not only it is harmful for skin, most of times the Scabies come back with few tubes of applying permethrin cream.

There are some strong formulations natural solutions that does magic and process that is much more soothing than putting on pesticides all over your body (permetrhin). Dr.scabies was recommended by my homeopathic doctor who was very against permethrin create. DR. SCABIES works and it works like magic!

I used Glover's Ointment (it's made for humans), as Glover's Liniment is a brand used on dogs for mange, which is the same as scabies. It does smell like sulphur, though. I used it for a couple of weeks and got really good results.

Scabies, WOW?!!!! Um, my daughter and her cousin had them when they were continuely playing in the dirt downstairs form our apartments many, many years ago!! It seems to me, that in time they will go away, because we used to have a neighbor who had them for a year or so and they finally started to fade on their own, his mom never took him to the doctor. But, my sister & I did take our kids to the doctor, and it seems like we had to wash all of their clothing,, and put some sort of spray on our furniture, and an ointment on their hands, that was prescribed to them from their doctor's.. You could call anyone of your local pharmacy's in your town and tell them your asking for a neighbor's kid's Mom who's too imbarrassed to ask for their own selves, and see if they can recommend something to you, over the counter, or a "Home Remedy" of sorts, too!! I'm sure they have one or two!! You might want to try, some sort of A&D ointment at first, in which you can buy over the counter.. Or even try Calamine Lotion, it works for chicken pox, and dries them out!!! It works for many things!! It comes in a pink plastic bottle..... And you can find it in the medicine isle's at any pharmacy!! Good Luck to you, and dont forget to have your Mom wash all of your clothing's and socks, and to spray some sort of a disinfectant spray on all of the furniture!! Smile, tain't nothing, but a grunyun!!! You'll be okay, hun!!
