I am planning to upgrade the bedding in my entire house and decided to go for the best this time. Is Egyptian cotton the best and softest of all? I am going for separate sheets, covers, comfortors etc., as opposed to "bed-in-a-bag with pretty designs" which I had previously, so that I can select higher threadcounts...what threadcounts are considered the best in Egyptian cotton?

Lastly what are some good places to get these from?

Anything over 350 or 400 thread count is great but the higher you can go the better. Be aware that they will come out of the dryer looking like they need to be ironed and I do iron my pillow cases and the top of the top sheet that shows. These days sheets of this level can be purchased in a lot of places but you can get your best deals at Linens N Things and Bed Bath and Beyond especially with their ongoing 20% off coupons. The bed in a bag sheets are usually only 250 so you are right to not want to use them. If I like the comforters and shams in them, I give the sheets to Goodwill. My highest thread count right now is 1000 and it is perfect. Be sure to wash these sheets on a cold water setting and dry them on a delicate setting. They can shrink if you don't

Egyptian cotton is known as the best cotton because it is the cotton with the longest fibers. The comfort is better because there is much less surface fuzz to ball up and form pills. Beyond that the sheets that fit the best or will stay on the best are going to be the best sheets. Drawstring sheets are the best fitting sheets because they are self adjusting and will tighten to the mattress no matter what the shape and thickness. The sheet stay on, stays flat and smooth until you need to take it off for laundry.

i just bought some yesterday. It is softer and feels lovely against bare skin. I bought 300 thread count but i'm sure you can purchase a higher one. I think its worth shelling out for a little bit a luxury, it is your bed afterall. You spend alot of time there, so its worth it. I havent tested this type of cotton in the summer yet. Cotton is meant to keep you cooler but the egyptian cotton feels thicker and so may not breathe as much. I recommend you try it out though. You can wash it on a normal cyle too.
