You are talking against generalization and you calling most Christian mean?? I think mean is subjective, what's mean to you could be nice to some.

First for the ofense How is it you have met most Christians to say that? Now to the point. Many who call themselves Christian are social Christians They think they are Christians because of where they were born or that is the only thing they have heard about. Others belong to churches that are more interested in how they feel during the brief time that they are at church. Others go to church for social reasons( it is where there boss goes or theycan make good connections for business) Then there are churches that expect certain behaviors from the congregation ( the fruits of the spirit...love,patience,gentleness,and self control) Unfortunately there are more of the former than the latter. In church circles there is much discussion and debate on these things.

It all depends upon what your definition of "being mean and judgmental are". Christians are taught to speak the truth in love but that doesn't mean sugar coating the truth so that the person never gets a clue when they are on the broad way to Hell. Christians are also taught that only God can judge the heart of another person but they can observe someone's speech or actions and compare them to what the Bible says and tell someone that according to God's standards they are missing the mark.

If someone is doing otherwise, then it could be that 1) they are having a bad day, 2) they are immature in their Christian faith, or 3) they are merely someone who has made a profession of faith in Jesus but who are not true born again Christians who have the Holy Spirit working in their life.

Or it could just be some troll posing as a Christian.

Christianity is such a fundamental change of heart that most of us don't make the change quickly. This means that there are a lot of half-done Christians--immature, believing in God but not knowing how to actually live according to the principles that they have signed up to. It is all a rather messy construction site, and I am very aware of ways that I have offended people in the past. For what it's worth, it's not easy on the inside either. I offend myself all the time.

Actually, most Christians I have seen on here are actually pretty kind. I believe they are protrayed as mean and hostile because their view points don't approve of what a lot of people chose to do. So they are demonized rather then listened to - and their opinions are trashed without reading them.

I have seen more Christians attacked, being called stupid, uneducated, illiterate, prejudiced, hatefilled etc. then I have seen Christians engaging in the same behavior.

Why do you think they are mean? Do you have a real concrete example of this - or were your feelings just hurt because they did not give you their approval and support?

It's because their religion tells them that their way is the only way and they are told they must preach their way as the only truth. When they run up against people who have a different way, they want to change them and they get mad when they are unsuccessful. That is why they get so mean and judgemental.

Also, and perhaps more important, is that the fact that there are other spiritual paths, this challenges their beliefs that theirs is the only true way, and this is scary for them, because if they are wrong, they have to face up to the fact that it is possible that they cease to exist after death. This fear, in my opinion, is the reason why people invent religions which promise them some kind of eternal life after death, even hell is eternal life when you think about it. They think that tha is less scary than the idea that we simply are no more. So, when other religions challenge this, they are petrified and must cling to the cross like glue to be reassured that they will not go into that last darkness forever, that they are right and the rest of us are wrong.

That's why. Fear is a lot of it. It causes mean and judgemental.

i have found that people who think i am mean and judgmental are just mad because i said what they are doing isn't the right thing to do. i don't care if someone gets mad, i'm not going to go along with something i think is wrong. i have every right and it is my duty to decide if i want to behave a certain way, or go to a certain place. being a christian doesn't mean i have to let my own common sense be changed by someone else. i do try to practice what i preach, but, i try not to preach too often.

If you don't want people to feel offended by your question try taking out the word "most". "Most" Christians I know are neither judgmental or mean. "Most" of them are very generous, loving, kind and willing to stop what they are doing to help those around them. "Many" will take vacation time to go to disaster areas to help the people who need it most. "Many" will give up a night out or a movie to be able to give to an charity that feeds the poor or helps the homeless. I'll take that group of "most" and "many" anything over the judgment of someone who doesn't know them.

Even though belief is real, we are still people. We still make mistakes. We aren't perfect people. I know that I hate it every time I do something like that, but I know I'm just a person. I try to improve each time, but I keep screwing up and I just want to improve and become a better person.
