Double click volume in the task bar and make sure your audio isn't Muted.

Otherwise, try the following:

Start
All Programs
PC Help and Tools
Applicatioin Recovery
Check the box for driver installation
Select your audio card driver and follow the instructions

Don't know about reinstalling xp, but whenever I install new programs I have this problem. Usually when I turn off my computer and turn it back on again, the sound is back! Try it.

You can go to the computer manufacturer and find what sound card they use. You should be able to download it from the site. Try technical support. Good luck.
