Attacking homosexuals is a favorite passtime for many fundamentalist/evangelical christians these days, even to the point of campaigning for state or federal constitutional changes.

As I understand it (and please correct me if I'm wrong), these christians justify their actions by claiming that they are defending family values. I admit, I don't quite understand this logic, but I guess the thinking is that they will set a bad example for children, allowing kids to think this sin is acceptable in society, thus eroding the basis for future family generations? Fair enough.

My question is this. If christians accept that this sin shouldn't be legal, shouldn't they be more concerned about divorce? Mark 10:11 tells us that marrying after a divorce is a sin (adultery). And mathew 5:32 tells us that marrying a divorced woman is also a sin.

Shouldn't we first legislate against sins that actually DO erode families before legislating against sins that MIGHT break up families?

Are there any groups calling for constitutional amendments or other legislation against divorce?

Rat: It's not a sin to BE gay, it's only a sin (or so the bible teaches) to actually perform a homosexual act. Christians say that such acts are a choice, that homosexuals CHOOSE to sin. Don't people choose to divorce? Is there a difference between choosing to sin one way vs. another?

Great question! In my opinion, it just another example of how different denominations interperate the bible to suit their own needs. As far as I know (and I'm probably wrong) Catholicism is the only organized religion which forbids marriage after divorce, but even then, you can say your sorry and enough hail marys and suddenly it's ok again. . .

While I see your point I do not think legislation making divorce illegal is the answer. Would you tell a person who is being abused by their spouse that they cannot dissolve such a psychologically & physically unhealthy union? It would make people who otherwise could get away from unhealthy relationships stay in them.

Homosexuality does not undermine family values.. has Massachusetts imploded because it allows marriages for any person who is a resident of the state? No. Families live on as they had before the legislation.

I feel like I'm in Geometry class, reading those proofs and theorems. You're making my brain hurt....

Legislate against sin? What? What happened to the separation between Church and State? Those crazy religious zealots are trying to muck up a perfectly good Constitution!

The problem is that people want to have the freedom to divorce if they want to. It's now concidered a right of people's in life. Chances are you won't be able to make divorce illegal.

Also, divorce isn't illegal in all cases. The only time where divorce is legal is when one of the people in the marriage commits adultery. Then, it's acceptable to divorce and remarry.

1. Everyone picks some parts of the bible to pay more attention to, and others to pay less attention to. (Many claim they don't, but they do.)
2. God only knows why they care what who does to whom in bed, but they've decided to pay attention to that and ignore the part about divorce. I think it may be because divorce doesn't make them as uncomfortable.
3. Lots of Christians couldn't care less. You hear about the ruckus in the Episcopal church, for example, but most Episcopalians don't care: they just want to take communion and do some good in the world.

No, homosexuality isn't a threat to relatives values. yet dad beating up on mom particular is. Dad or mom cheating on one yet another particular undermines the marriage. drugs harm. it incredibly is all approximately healthful existence type and damaging existence type. If the couple (male & lady or male & male or lady & lady) grants a sparkling, secure ecosystem for the child, it incredibly is stable relatives values.

you are right.....sin is sin PERIOD! Jesus died for sinners.....all sin. Divorce is a more "acceptable sin" but allowing the legalization of another sin will not make either sin less sinful.

They pick hateful stuff out of the Bible and then threaten homosexuals.

Most of the Christian I have met (which is 98%)
are extremely rude, loud, and hateful.

Most of the gays I know are incredibly nice!
