Every boy scout and probably soldier has had to eat this. Actually I like it but it is high in fat. The name came from a contest to name a new product. A woman came up with Spam for the reasons others have listed. I think this was back in the 1930's.
Best if fried to get rid of some of the fat.

a bunch of precess and left over meat & pork pruducts, kind of like got dogs but in a an, then they add salt & water cooked it under prssure and it taste so good...
Now they make healthier versions turkey & low sodium
and they taste pretty good.
