I have three 8 day old kittens who the mother does not like, so we have to feed them from bottles of store-bought kitten formula. They seemed fine, using the bathroom on their own. But one has had runny stool mixed with a bit of blood, starting yesterday. (s)He seems active and talkitive. I am giving him water to keep him hydrated. We gave hm a bit extra formula,
so he might have over-eaten (i hope). The others have fine, firm stool. Is it an emergancy and what can I do?!?!

You said they are using the bathroom on their own...there is something wrong with that. Kittens that age must be stimulated to defecate. The kittens may be bloated, which can lead to diarrhea and intestinal distress. Use a cottonball and warm water to gently massage the genital area to get them to pee and poop after every meal. It is better to feed them smaller, frequent meals than to overfeed a few larger meals. Also, kittens need an external heat source for the first 3 weeks as they cannot regulate their own body temperatures. A heating pad set on low under half their box will help. Blood in the stool could be serious, and you might want to contact a local vet for a check up.

Bloody stool is a sign of lower digestive tract problems. Fresh red blood suggests something is wrong in the large intestine. In a kitten so small, this is a serious and potentially deadly problem. If your kitten has uncontrolled internal bleeding, there is only one inevitable outcome. Typically there is a reason when an animal abandons its young. They can tell when something is wrong with the litter. This kitten's failing health is probably why the mother rejected it. It's natural selection and survival of the fittest. You have two choices, take the kitten to the vet for emergency care or let nature take its course.
I'm sorry to have to be so grim, but sometimes nature can be quite unforgiving.

Kittens normally have runny poo, but blood is never a good sign! You need to take it to the vet to get it checked out, with a stool sample if you can get one. It may just have a simple parasite infestation that can be cured with liquid meds, or it could be something a lot more serious.
Good luck! Hope your kitten gets better!

These kittens are very, very young and this is something that you need to contact a Vet immediately! Blood in any fluids (excrement) from any animal is cause for alarm that something is not OK! Please contact the Vet now and do not waste time guessing.
