If you care to drive about 20 miles further north, there's a pretty big Buddhist monastery in Carmel. They serve vegetarian lunch on the weekends if you want to make a day trip out of it.

I love Bear Mountain. During the summer you can walk along the trails, visit the Bear Mountain Zoo, eat at the restaurant where you will find extraordinary food and visit Hyde Park, the estate of Franklin Roosevelt that is not too far away.

I live right down the road from there. Bear Mountain has alake, I believe Hessian Lake, which is surrounded by a nice walking path. There are boats for rent. There is a zoo, but I haven't been to it. Playground, and even a carousel. If history interests you, West Point is only minutes away, with the museum in Highland Falls.
