I had a procedure on 7-2-7007 and they had to insert an IV. It was a student nurse and she was trying to put it in at the top of my hand. I've had many IV's inserted before and I know how they feel. When she stuck me with the needle it hurt so badly. She didn't get it at first so she kept moving the needle around inside, the pain was horrific. Finally she gave up and another nurse put one in on the other hand. She put something down to stop the bleeding as my hand was covered with blood. My other hand that had the IV never hurt afterwards, but the hand she worked on hurts so much. It hurts worse everyday. The skin feels so tight and whenever I try to grip anything or bend my middle finger at all it burns worse than anything I've ever felt in my life. It feels like the muscle, ligament, an skin connected to my middle finger are being torn apart. The slightest movement of my finger or bending my wrist downwards burns to the point of immediate screaming and sobbing. Can anyone help me!

Your description sounds like an infection, although I don't believe it is. Your skin has been bruised, definitely. This takes a long time to heal. (I know from experience myself). I have a similar experience on my hand and I was sore for weeks. It happens to some of us. See your physician who performed your procedure and get this checked out.
Bless your heart. Please don't be upset with the student nurse. She was following instructions and you are lucky she was not allowed to try it again.

There is nothing wrong with you a lot of people get very emotional about being criticized or have a fear of being disliked by others. It could be insecurity or just the fear of ending up alone which is bollocks really. I used to get upset sometimes if people said something bad but then i thought I have a family that loves me great great friends and that's all i really need. It is alright to feel hurt cause frankly you cant change that can you, it's part of who you are and i bet quite allot of people appreciate you for your sensitivity. In one life time you most likely will come across a few people that wont like you but does it really matter ??? You are someone in your own right and you need no body's approval but your own. They say people that think about they're life and have a sense of sarcasm are going to laugh they're asses of but people that feel it will be heartbroken. I guess you're one of the few that really feel it.

I've gone through something very similar to that. The nurse gave me alot of pain trying to get an IV in place and when she finally gave up I had blood all over my hand. Stayed very painful and sensitive for about a week and now I have a scar. They tell me she blew the vein. It's fine now and I've had other people put IVs in around the same area without a problem.
Just in case your situation isn't what I had you should contact your doctor.

I would guess she hit one of the many nerves or tendons in your hand. Call the doctors office and tell them what's wrong. You may be getting an infection.
I remember from med class all the students that were practicing giving shots and taking blood. You could here the screams down the hall. Some never learn.

You should call the hospital or office where you had the procedure done. If it is really that painful, you may want to go to an urgent care or the ER. It sounds like it is swollen and you may have an infection. You definitely need to have it looked ASAP. You don't need to continue being in that kind of pain.

sounds like the vein blew. what has probably happened is the area around the vessel has bruised. Call the facility and let them know what you are experiencing. Until they are able to see you use an icepack on the area 30 min. on the area and thirty minutes off. that will help reduce the swelling in the area and allow the body to start to absorb the blood.

Im not sure of the problem, but it is not normal to feel the way you do. Contact the doctor or facility that did your procedure and ask to be seen and treated for IV site irritation. Something is wrong.

She must have touched your nerve or caused deep hematoma which may be causing pressure on the nerve. I seriously doubth infection as your pain started right after the IV.

I had similar experience with a bad i/v. But not bad as you best you see a dr as soon as you can. Ice should relieve the pain.
