First start by having her vet checked. She may have a UTI or kidney trouble.

Now, ALL small breeds are difficult to housebreak. That is something you should have researched before you got her. Just keep working with her and BE CONSISTENT. She will eventually get it.

Okay, first we don't spay our females so they stop marking. Females will mark regardless if they have ever had a heat cycle. It isn't like males where if they are neutered early on they tend to MARK LESS, and not lift their legs. Females should be spayed for many other good reasons like the afore mentioned pyometra, and reduction of mammary tumors which are also deadly. Marking is a behavior, like thumb sucking in children. The first animal has possible already marked those same areas (unknown to you) and now the new little girl is trying to establish her own place in your pack. Vinegar and bleach don't remove the odor to a dogs nose. Humans have about sixteen cm² of olfactory epithelium, whereas some dogs have 150 cm². A dog's olfactory epithelium is also considerably more densely innervated, with a hundred times more receptors per square centimetre.
In lay terms they smell at least 100 times better than we do. Simple Solution, available at Petco and Petsmart helps to clean it better, and has a pleasant smell to us.

Get a guide to crate training for this female either from your Vet, a library, or internet resource. It is an amazing way of training a difficult dog. Remember though you and your Daughter will be trained to go potty outside way before your little jack russell will! Best wishes, and take a deep breath.

I see you've gotten some good answers. You will need to have the carpets steam cleaned to get the smell out.

However, the first thing you should do after having her vet checked, is to stop her from running all over the house when you're at work. Confine her to the kitchen or the bathroom or buy her an x-pen. The idea is to make sure she has room to lay down and relax but doesn't get to run all over the house and pee everywhere. She should have plenty of fresh water and food if she is used to that.

She should also be spayed. Intact females mark territory just as much as some males. Spaying her will also eliminate the possibility of Pyometra (uterine infection) which can be lethal.

Part of the reason is because she is not spayed. She probably is marking which is a problem that would stop about a month after she was spayed.

I dont think it is appropriate to put an 11 yr old in charge of a dog like a JRT. They are very highly active and have somewhat short attention spans.

your dog is obviously dominant in the house. you need to go take her outside for a walk when you come home.
give her water during the day, but dont give her during the night. instead, give her ice cubes so that she wont die of dehydration but the water will slowly dissolve to water.
let her out in the morning, after her breakfast, midday, during the walk, and then once again after her dinner.

she also might be urinating(/dominating) everywhere because she is spoiled (although you dont mention anything spoiling in your question ) just realize what youre doing to the dog that is humanizing. dogs arent humans and people sometimes forget that.
dont do that putting the nose to pee thing cause dogs dont connect with it after a few minutes. even though you'll be yelling, they look guilty cause they dont know what you're yelling about (They dont see the peeing as a bad thing in the house. ) you have to catch them when she's peeing and then immedietely say NO! and then take her outside.

Sounds to me like you own and dog yet know nothing about dog behavior. Your dog is not trained, and likely not socialized. Little wonder that you are having behavior problems. Why not educate your self about dog behavior and learn how to teach and correct your dog? Enroll in a good obedience class and the result will be that you will have a better and safer pet.

This happened to us too! We now have a fenced area that our dog can go to whenever he wants! First you fence a area close to the house, then you put in a doggy door. Now to train it...
When you put in the doggy door go on the other side and have treats there, your dog will soon go through the doggy door all the time to do its thing.
(It takes a while to train it though)

Try this: when she looks like she's gonna pee put some treats near the place you want her to pee then she might go and pee there if not then just put her outside every hour or two then she'll pee out there.... for the cleaning go to a pet store and they should have pet stain removers..... if not go to maybe Walmart cuz i bought a pet stain and oder remover there..... Good Luck!!!

Take her to the vet to make sure she doesn't have some sort of infection or health problem.. You might be trying to train a dog that is sick and it's not going to work..
Spay her! When she is in to have her health tested for the peeing problem, have her spayed.

sometimes when a dog isnt fixed, they pee places to mark territory. even when they are fixed they still do that. this is most commonly done when there is a new dog that is in the house and they are trying to declare dominance, or when there is something or someone that is threatening to them and they feel that they need to mark their territory.
