Yes! Laptop Jesus adds a good quote, but let me share my own thoughts. I'm keeping it restricted to Religion and Spirituality, since that's the section.

God is nothing more than an ideal:
Omnipotence, for a strong foundation and the ability to do anything, which gives it authority
Omniscience, so that it is always right and knows everything, including you, better than you know yourself
Benevolence, so that it can do no wrong and always has your best interests at heart, even if it sends some people to eternal torment

God is just a bunch of things people would love to be: all-powerful, all-knowing, and perfect. When you read the Bible, it is clear how God also possesses very human thoughts and emotions as well as patterns and, oddly, fluctuations thereof.

It's too bad that people had to pretend an idea was reality so that they could worship it (read: be part of it).

Of course, this is just for one idea. As Master Maverick says, some of us don't just believe because we'd like to think there is something that isn't there.

As nearly any generalization about people, it is neither entirely true, nor entirely false. It applies to some. Believe me (if you so desire), I would LOVE to believe that there is an afterlife, in which I could do and experience anything and everything I've ever wanted to. Nothing would make me happier. For all I know, there may be one. But I cannot believe it, with any certainty. Because I have thoughts. I see reality for what it is, rather than skewing it in favor of my own personal desires. There are plenty of others for whom this is true.

Then, there are people who have irrational hopes and/or prejudices. If they are not willing to understand that they are irrational, their only choice is to find an excuse to justify them. And so, we get "faith". One's own perspective is perceived as elevated above all others, completely invalidating (as far as the individual is concerned) opposing beliefs with just as much credibility. It's terribly amusing, the way each individual's God agrees with them about everything. What they see as absolutely wrong, their God is fiercely opposed to. What they see as admissible, so does he.

God Bless you...

I think there is an aspect of truth to that...but check out this one...

I think it applies to many of us. Not everyone however is apt to believe that which they want, but that which seems to us to be true! It's a Quote which describes most of us to some degree, but not all.

makes sense

Julius Caesar must have done one thing and did something completely different because he forced his religion on people

My opinion? i think of it demonstrates an entire dying adventure on behalf of the guy speaking. The irony is this person is desperate to become the failure that they despise.
