I'd say that if you earn major money on your garage sales--if this is a regular source of income for you--then report in on your IRS form. If you have a one-time garage sale and don't earn that much, let it go.
I've earned a little money here and there as a party clown and as a writer, and I've usually reported it.

It's not income. You paid taxes on the stuff you are selling when you bought it new. You're probably almost giving it away. You're not bound by law to pay tax on garage sales (at least not in my state). Jesus was a working man. He might have bought food, or something for his mom. Who knows?

Actually, if anything you should be able to claim it as a loss. If you sell a couch that you paid $500 for and get $50 for it, you haven't earned a profit. Also, if you paid to put an ad in the paper, and put up posters etc. you have actually paid expenses.
If you are continually by and selling things from flea markets for profit, that would be different. But if you occasionally clean out your closets, have a garage sale, and give what you don't sell to charity, no, I don't think it should be taxable.
I"m not Christian, hope you don't mind me answering.

I think the US Government excuses garage sales from tax collection. You are allowed to sell up to a certain amount of your personal items without claiming them. I believe it is $250. I'm not sure if Jesus would have a garage sale. He might just donate the items to the poor.

You shouldn't even have to pay tax at all. It has been man with help and lies from the devil who created money, to then have to work for it and buy things that otherwise could have been free.
Even the monkeys are smarter for not having an economic system. Boy, even the fish are smarter, even the birds are smarter........
My daughter is 6 years old and we bought a car and she said, Mom why we have to pay this man for his car, when he has now a new one? why not just share. That is the innocence and wisdom that takes to bring about the Kingdom and mercy of God. And is lost most of the time as we grow in the belly of the beast. (you know what I mean).

All income should be disclosed, other wise it is part of the black economy.
Funnily most councils in the UK seem not to discourage things like Farmers markets, Garage sales, Car boots etc., where there are no tills or cash receipts. No wonder the black economy thrives.

If the law of the land says you should, then please do.
If it's a matter left solely to your conscience, and you feel you should, then please do.
If I buy a car for $20 000, used it for 3 years , and then sold it for $12 000. Do I pay tax on the$12 000 income? Didn't I already pay tax on the ORIGINAL $20 000 that I used to buy the car? If I were to pay tax on both, that will be tax on $32 000 when I earned only $20 000.
What would Jesus do? I don't know. But He did say "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God, the things that are God's".

you will could document and pay taxes on your earnings. in case you had a internet benefit after thinking all expenditures, then you definitely will could document that as a capitol benefit. you may probably be nicely served via hiring an accountant to do your taxes. you are able to attempt to smash out without reporting it, yet once you used it to purchase supplies right here, they are going to capture you. that's greater low-cost just to pay the tax owed.

The answer is NO! Why the hell would you give that money to the government, they get enough of our money and waste it, specially here in the uk where tax is very high.
.. Oh and i think jesus would give some of the money to charity if not all.
