I think people eqate religion with morality because every religion makes moral standards for its followers. You are right in saying that just by having religion you don't automatically become a moral model. I think its sort of the other way around. Being a person with high morality is being the best in religion. Religion gives us the incentive to be truly good. I know you say that you don't need that incentive but most people who don't believe in religion seem to think that since there is only this life, they should just enjoy themselves to the fullest, without regard for right or wrong. For example, they would probably not have much problem with adultry, fornification, alcohol, recreational drugs, gossiping, backbiting, bribery, etc. as long as they could get away with it. Religion gives you the inner strenghth to resist temptation. Religion also gives you guidelines and helps you through life. Religion gives the true purpose and meaning to life. A lot of people don't have much purpose in life any more except making money, entertainment or even helping others or the environment. I'm not saying these things are bad but in a way it seems that there must be a higher purpose for our being alive here on earth than just these. Our creation must have been for someting more. And I believe that that something is to worship God. p.s. This is not to say that people who claim to be very religious are really good. Your right that in history there are a lot of instances where religion was used as an excuse for cruelty and immorality. But there are people out there who are trully good and pious people who are sincere in their beleif in God and also sincere in their actions, who try to behave with the highest standard of morality for the sake of both God and just being good.

In the absence on one world religion, the doctrines that have historically prevailed have been major contributing factors to the behavior of the people of the times. Even in the presence of one predominant religion, there will be people who stray from the doctrines of that faith and people who fail to familiarize themselves with the true tennets of any specific faith. Most of them will act on whatever they understand (regardless of the degree of knowledge they have been exposed to ) and some will be swayed by peer pressures as did many of the German people (who were NOT ALL like HItler) during the Third Reich. This "wonderful morality" is born out of mankind and has NOTHING to do with God or the true teachings of the bible (especially in the New Testament).

Becaus the police don't obey the law does not mean that the law is wrong or is to be blamed for sins against it and for fanatical displays of pyscho behavior.

If people by grace applied the wonderful morality of the New Testament in its Apostolic Tradition context and application there would be no wars, etc.

Corruption murders and the other evils you list are from the violation of the ethics of the "High Religions" and are directed against God not to God.

If nations and people in power took the Beatitudes of Jesus and/or the Five Precepts of Buddha seriously" I don't know much about[military]history, but what a wonderful world it would be."

The ones that do were told that morality comes from God ever since they were very tiny. They don't know any other way of thinking. Fortunately, many Christians aren't like that.

EDIT: Hello, people do not automatically equate communism with morality.

Not all religions are cause of troubles in the world. Some religion teach violence, not all religions. Some people call themselves "Christians" but do not follow the scripture or has misunderstanding of the scripture and ashamed their God by living contradictory to the scripture. It is sad.

Why do people ask questions like this on YA?

Over and over I see question formed: "Why does X happen?"

Buit there is no proof that X is even true. It is assumed.
Example would be: "Why did George Bush kiss Hillary Clinton at a formal reception?"

Most of the time X is not even true. But people still try to explain it.

Yupp, and i'm sure you love it when people blame you for their actions thenn? Seriously, i'll use an example, a guy at worke fuks up and doesn't wanna come clean so when the manager comes and asks what happened he blames the guy that can't speak english. God has been that guy that can't speak english for all of history now.

I cannot help it...I have eyes and ears... when all is see of religious people is shouting death and damnation, I find this immoral, I don't care who says what. If this god they worship is a revengeful, spiteful entity, I want nothing to do with it or them.
