Hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now.

If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your style.

Well, of course, though it wasn't his from its origin, John Lennon impressed me enough to remember, "Life happens when you are making other plans," which became so prophetic as to his own loss of life.

I like "It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good," which leads me to believe that God always make something worthwhile of unhappy happenings, but I can only really quote my favorite from the originator, John Dunne, "No man is an island."

"Hard work makes good luck." --Thomas Jefferson

I think both John Lennon and Simon Cowell are good examples of what Jefferson meant.

"We train for a thousand days, whether we live or die is determined in a instant"

It comes from a man named Miyamoto Musashi. Although its to do with fighting in battle its meaning is "how we perform in the present is determined by the amount of work done in the past"

Probably Winston Churchill's saying:

"This is not the beginning of the end; but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

He had such a strong character!

My other favourite saying is in Latin. "Si vis Pacem, para Bellum." It means, "If you want peace, prepare for war."

Another strong quote for when stuff gets difficult.

I have THREE favourite "MOTTOES", - TWO of which, I got, from my late FATHER, - in what HE described as "PIG LATIN" - the THIRD came from a United States Navy CHAPLAIN.

The two from DAD were/are:

1. "NIX ILLEGITEMAE - NIL CARBORUNDUM", - which Dad translated as "DON'T LET THE B******S GRIND YOU DOWN!" - and

2. "MAN WITH DEATHWATCH BEETLE IN WOODEN LEG, IS BETTER OFF, THAN MAN WITH TIN LEG, IN THUNDERSTORM.....!", which, - he CLAIMED, - was a quote from Chinese philosopher, CONFUSCIUS.

3. "PRAISE THE LORD, AND PASS THE AMMUNITION!!", - an ACTUAL quote, from U.S. Navy Chaplain, Reverend HOWELL G. FORGEY! He uttered it, during the infamous Japanese ATTACK, on PEARL HARBOUR!

And, YES, - I CAN add one, from the late, GREAT, John Winston Lennon, - who told a REPORTER, that:- "WITHOUT ELVIS, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO 'BEATLES!',", - moments after being TOLD about the death OF Elvis, in August, 1977

I have three (but no idea where they come from!):

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away"

"To be old and wise, first you must be young and stupid"

"Some people are only alive because it's illegal to kill them"
