Then what created god? And don't give me this "he just always existed" crap. Many seem to believe because of the things that can not be explained in this world that they are irreducibly complex and must have had a creator. if so then the creator must also be irreducibly complex, no? Why is it that people will believe the Universe could not have started it self but God can? We have proof of a universe, there is zero proof of god.

There is no "before God," just "before God created time."

One thing I don't understand is why so many Christians think the quote of a day being like a thousand years (or something close) is the context in which you're supposed to understand creation? The creation account is accurate, if the author meant thousands of years, they would've said "thousands of years." They were specific all over the Bible, why suddenly change to figurative? That makes no sense, and there's nothing God can't do, so why couldn't it take 6 days? Mankind is fallible, and there is evidence contradicting supposedly scientific observation (no, I can't give a source, but I wish I could), so why should we blindly trust science with something that has been cast into doubt? It's a hard call.

The six days are not literal.
It has been argued repeatedly, that the six creative days are not literal 24 hour increments, but figurative creative epochs.
Only a small percentage of creationists subscribe to the narrow minded viewpoint that the Bible described "days" are 24 hour days.
According to John 1:1, " In the beginning, the word was", is poetically suggesting that in the indeterminate time period before he created the physical universe, he existed.

The Bible says "in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth". It doesn't say how long that took or how long ago it was. The 6 days are not literal 24 hour days. Days is often used to refer to a period of time, like "in my grandfather's day".

First off- God didn't really create the universe in '7' days- thats a metaphor.

But lets say that he did. In that timespan, he created day and night. That means, there was no day and night before hand. There was no time. So there was no 'before' the universe was made, before it was made. There was no time, because God created Time as a unit of measurement.

Thus, it's impossible to tell what happened 7 days before, because since time didn't exist before that, there were no days before that.

A question which has been inquired of since probably shortly after the "Garden of Eden" account.

There is an old saying, "to catch a thief, you must think like one" No that is not suggesting some Supreme Being is a thief, only no one is thinking like Deity.

The very first part of this equation is, the human mind has not the capacity to comprehend the answers to such a questions. Add to the equation, consider the first couple Adam and Eve, after being kicked out of the Garden of Eden, and they needed to set up house keeping outside in the cold world. They had little knowledge how to fend for them selves much less keep warm or produce light to see with. Figuring a 24 hour day, half of light half of dark, what was their state of mind? Further in this equation, can any one imagine either of them deciding upon how to arrange the furniture, er I mean rocks perhaps in a cave. That which they knew was to select fruit from the trees to eat, and perhaps now there was insufficent heat to prevent the cold of night, or cool to relive the heat of day. What would this add up to?

Just for example, how much time or thought do you suppose this couple might have given to how or why the "TV SET" did or did not work? A far out example, but meant as a unit of measurement we might imploy to question "time or state before what we in our very simple minds have come to be familar with, as mortality. Flash forward, out side of our self inflated egos dealing with modern technology, we ask about even greater puzzles, are our minds equiped for the answers?

Just by reading examples of the depth some questions presented in this Q/A section, clearly suggests the avergae human mind can not handle any subsative answer to the question. A careful study of history clearly demonstrates, how the human being uses any information, that has been parcaled out by an Inteligence far above what we have demonstrated. For those whom wish to place any merit on the possibility of extratersteral UFO'S, a quick review of recent history will prove that human beings are not yet capable of understanding any strange concept. Witnesse all that has been said, and reported over the Oswal supposed crash site.

Allow that any form of Deity was to offer answers to so many of those concerning before time and how was it done, much less why, what do you conjecture the human race would do with such information? Can any one deny, some individual, group, or corporation would not ask the next question, how can we make money on the deal???

For those of the readers which, profess to be religious in some form of "Deity" can you honestly declared you have lived up to 100% of that information and instructions you have currently at your handfs to live by? By way of further questions, how many of you would allow a small child to play with matches and live sticks of dynamite?

Can there be any real need for some supreme being to grant this example of humanity further means of corruption and destruction?

On the other hand while we are incapable of understanding these various questions of time and space and infinity, we could all learn a great deal by ceasing the small child squabling in the sand box, and start listening to a higher understanding. It just may be when we rise above the pettyness of the primative human mind, we just might be given more answers to these nagging questions.

God is eternal, so he still existed, there just was no universe. And remember, this is referring to God's days, not ours, so they were longer than a day.

2 Peter 3:8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

God is eternal and infinite,so He transcends time and space as well as encompassing time and space. So the question really does not apply. The 6 day creation is considered symbolic by most Christians I know.
I myself find no conflict between Big Bang, evolution etc as scientific theories and creation out of nothing by the One Infinite Eternal Ultimate as religious dogma.

Well, it took seven days for God's God to create God. On the first day he created God's Heaven and God's Earth, on the sixth day he created God, and on the seventh day he rested. Then God created the heaven and the earth, etc. So seven days before the creation, God's God was creating God's Heaven and God's Earth.

How do you know that the six days were not literal?

God didn't tell us what He was doing before that. So, I don't know. Neither do I know all that He did AFTER creation of Earth/life on Earth. All I know is what He has revealed in the Bible.
