What's the point in living forever...or does 'immortality' refer to something else?

Has anyone overlooked the possibility that 'death' is not what you might think?
Maybe it's bad health, or subjection to fools...

Would be a bit like being Quinn (ST:VOY reference) - essentially, he was a member of the Q Continuum, an immortal species that can occupy any part of space or time at any stage they want. They're all named Q.

This Q has seen it all and it became boring, so he decided to rebel ... and was locked away for 300 years because of it. He wants to die because, after 5 billion years of existence, nothing is new to him anymore and his life is boring. Except, of course, he can't die.

Immortality would result in life losing its meaning. Nothing would be precious anymore. Learning would mean nothing since you can learn any other day of your eternal life. It's learning as much as you can before it's too late that's the real thrill.
Immortality is actually a curse--or the concept of it at least. Most people wish they could be immortal or that their "souls" could live on because they're afraid of dying or letting go. That's understandable. Why else would so many religions have that concept embedded in them? But if you put some real thought into it, it should be completely undesirable.

Mankind was created with an immortal SOUL... whether or not you want it, whether or not you believe it... it's there, and it's forever!

What's the POINT of living forever? That one you'll have to ask God. He's the one who created this, and I can't remember Him telling us WHY our souls are immortal.

"Immortal" means exempt from death or from oblivion : imperishable. It means that our souls are separate from our physical bodies, which ARE subject to death. This has been the ongoing question... what DOES happen to our souls (which are immortal) after our physical bodies cease to function?

That is another question for another day! Have a blessed day!

No, actually, don't think so. I remember my mother at 85, and she swore that she would haunt me forever if she were ever in the hospital being kept alive with tubes, and whatever.

One of the challenges of life is to do it all before it is over. As well, cannot imagine sitting on a fluffy cloud with Jeeeessssuuuussss coming by to pat me on the head...

and my dad, a doc, said that there were only two tragedies in life.... "living to long and dying too soon". Notice that no age is mentioned... One can be three and be living too long, and one can by 90, and be dying too soon.

Immortality spoken of/professed in Ancient Greek/Roman fictional literature of Plutarch, Homer, Hosied & in the more modern fictional literature of Anne Rice's Vampires series or like Gregory Widen's The Highlander series, to name a few, means men and women who do not die & do not age or age slowly over the centuries.

For me, the premise, would be a horrible existence. To have people you love and care for, come into your life and then to watch them die, while you live on, century after century would be heart-breaking and not an existence I would wish on anyone.

Jesus' promises of Immortality in Heaven or in Hell is very different.

All true Christians that enter Heaven and all those they will see and be with in Heaven are given new perfect bodies.
A body and a life that will never die, never age, never hurt, never be ill, never be hungry, never be sad, never be mad, never be alone, never be friendless, never be thirsty, and we will all live forever with Jesus Christ and Almighty God.

All people who CHOOSE to refuse/reject God's gift, His Son Jesus Christ are promised immortality too when they die, but immortality in The Lake Of Fire. There you will not only be hungry, thirsty, in pain, friendless, ill, and tormented by Satan and his demons 24/7, you will also be denied the love, spirit, and presense of Almighty God and Jesus Christ for eternity.

Jesus' promised immortality in Heaven or in Hell is certain and real. I want and look forward to immortality in Heaven with Jesus Christ.

Man's fictional literary description and hypothetical consequence being a blessing and a curse to be an immortal I would never want or wish on anyone else.

Like it or not, everyone born on this earth and other planets in the far galaxies under God's control will become immortal after their judgment and resurrection.

Depending on what you do or fail to do during mortality will establish you in immortality.

I not only want immortality for me, but for my husband as well. He agreed to the "til death do you part" thing and I wanna make him suffer!
