The pluralistic American society is changing from being a "melting pot" to a "salad bowl"' in which all ingredients are encouraged to preserve and display their distinct individual taste and flavor. However, even though Islam is a major religion with over 1 billion followers worldwide and over 6 million in the U.S.A., some Americans still think it is a cult, some believe all Muslims are terrorists or have 4 wives.

The ongoing crisis in the Muslim world and the misrepresentation of Islam sometimes by the media challenges us to answer questions by our non- Muslim friends about our way of life in a simple and concise language.

What is the Islamic view on
dating and premarital sex
abortion
homosexuality and AIDS
euthanasia and suicide
organ transplantation

There are a lot of misconceptions of Islam due to the fact that a lot of extremists wish to do their dirty deeds on behalf of Islam, whilst they are only disgracing themselves in front of Allah. Some people choose not to educate themselves and a lot of people are just ignorant. The majority of people are however very tolerant towards Muslims. Just goes to show there are the good and the bad in every nation/religion etc... That's why Allah judges everyone individually and holds them accountable individually because everyone has a different heart/ intentions. And if Allah doesn't judge as a WHOLE then neither should we.

To answer the rest of your question:

1) Dating and Pre-Marital Sex--
" You commit no sin by announcing your engagement to the women, or keeping it secret. GOD knows that you will think about them. Do not meet them secretly, unless you have something righteous to discuss. Do not consummate the marriage until their interim is fulfilled. You should know that GOD knows your innermost thoughts, and observe Him. You should know that GOD is Forgiver, Clement." Qur'an 2:235

No premarital sex is allowed in Islam. Therefore, no dating is allowed on the premise that dating inevitably leads to premarital sex.

The choice of a marriage partner is one of the most important decisions a person will make in his or her lifetime. It should be taken as seriously as any other major decision in life - with prayer, careful investigation, and family involvement. It is Islamically permissible for a couple to meet in chaperoned, or group environment. In Islam consent is very important- that is neither women nor men can be married against their will. Islam has given this freedom of choice to both young men and women - they cannot be forced into a marriage that they don't want.

2) ABORTION ( is conditional)

Let me briefly explain:

(1) Abortion could be allowed for a lady's health sake, and that too when properly suggested by some responsible specialist/physician.

(2) Under normal health conditions, and particularly when the foetus is developed enough (that specialists consider it a live body), abortion amounts to deliberate killing and therefore, not allowed.

(3) Abortion or even prevention of conception for fear of economic hardships, is the negation of the basic article of Islamic faith that God is sole Provider and Sustainer of every living soul. That being the reason, the act will be un-Islamic.

(4) Seeking abortion for no "good" reason at all, and saying that the "mother" or "father" just does not want that baby - is inhuman and cruel thinking. No sane person would allow that.

(5) If even the conception is the result of extra-marital union or forced rape, abortion is not allowed, because the (innocent) baby to be, has the right to life, that can not be denied. The biological parents - both or either one - or else the society/state is responsible to take care of such "un-wanted" or illegal births.
*** Even though Islam says the soul does not enter the body till a certain amount of days, These conditions still have to apply and the life of the baby can't be taken for selfish reasons***

3)HOMOSEXUALITY (Not allowed in Islam)

And Lut, when he said to his tribe: "Do you commit an obscenity not perpetrated before you by anyone in all the worlds? You come with lust to men instead of women. You are indeed a depraved tribe." The only answer of his tribe was to say: "Expel them from your city! They are people who keep themselves pure!" So We rescued him and his family-except for his wife. She was one of those who stayed behind. We rained down a rain upon them. See the final fate of the evildoers! ” — Qur'an, 7:80-84

4) Euthanasia and Suicide... Are the same. NOT allowed.
"Do not kill (or destroy) yourselves, for verily Allah has been to you most Merciful"
[surah an-Nisa; 4:29].
*******************Euthanasia - Mercy Killing *************

The Shari'ah (Islamic Law) listed and specified the indications for taking life (i.e. the exceptions to the general rule of sanctity of human life), and they do not include mercy killing or make allowance for it.

Human life per se is a value to be respected unconditionally, irrespective of other circumstances. The concept of a life not worthy of living does not exist in Islam. Justification of taking life to escape suffering is not acceptable in Islam.

Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) taught: "There was a man in older times who had an infliction that taxed his patience, so he took a knife, cut his wrist and bled to death. Upon this God said: My subject hastened his end, I deny him paradise."
[Sahih al-Bukhari 8:603]

5) organ transplants are reccomended because they are a form of donation and will help save another life.

Islam is probably the fastest growing religion because of the amount of people who already worship and follow Islam's beliefs while many others who were not of that religion are converting to it. It's just too hard to find any credibility in a lot of religions such as Christianity when you look at their past history in which the actual religion began and originated from. For Christianity there's not much proof in their beliefs just a lot of bullying people into believing it. I could sit here and analyze each religion in comparison to Islam but that'd take too long and I'm sure you wouldn't read all of it. Instead I'll just end by saying that of all the religions I've studied so far, Islam seems to be the most crediblie so I believe it's a fast growing religion because of converts as well as those who already believe in the faith based on family lineage, etc. And as far as the propaganda the media is setting up for Islam in teaching the ignorant, it's not doing a good job. The media is the easiest and most effective way to brainwash ignorant people who will believe anything they say and not get up and actually find the truth themselves. The media is not always correct. In this day and age, it's turning some people against Islam because of a portrayal of a small group of people who they think represent the entire population. It's like the saying: One bad apple spoils the whole barrel.

Dating stands different meanings in different societies,,difference in east and west but telling regarding West,,so this is not allowed..A woman is allowed to go with the men she is married to or atleast had done a Nikah which is marriage certificate ! and premartial sex is not allowed at all ! its taken as a sin and there is a punishment for that .yet whoever repent there is forgiveness by God !

Abortion without any medical cause like if the mother is heart patient., have some serious respiratory disorder, liver disease..or any life threatening disease or rape ..is not allowed and abortion for just getting rid of a baby (illegal, concieved without any plan etc) is taken as sin and murder !

homosexuality is also a sin in islam

and AIDs is ofcourse a worse disease and especialy if it is gotton by unsafe sex ! which is stronlgy condemned in islam..but ofcourse if a person gets it without knowing and by wrong blood transfusions, prick , vertical transfer(from mother to kid)..that the person deserves mercy !

euthanasia is only allowed when the brain is dead. .and suicide is taken as unforgivable sin in islam !

organ transplantation is allowed when it is not done for a busniess, organ is donated by the relative or in free by some other person whose antigens matches with ther patient ..! it is a life saving procedure so it is valued but should be done in fair way !

1) Some of the Muslim men i know date openly(even Non Muslim women) and some are already married and none of the single (and absolutely none of married)Muslimah women ) I know of date (or at least admit to it). Is there one Muslim position on dating?

My understanding is that arranged or semi-arranged or at least "directed meeting"marriages seem to be the rule for girls and common for boys among Western Muslims that I know but my close knowledge of many Muslims is very limited. Is my understanding correct?

My understanding is that pre-marital and non marital sex is considered almost as wrong in Islam as in Christianity.,even though Islam tolerates polygamy but not polyandry(women with many husbands at the same time).

I know at least nominal Muslims and Christians who engage in non Marital sex. I've heard that "temporary wives" or concubines are accepted by forms of Islam. Is this true?

This fornication and adultery are forbidden in Christianity too but "bad Christians" do violate the laws of Christ so you can't go by what people who profess to be followers of religions do but by the authoritative teachings

2) All the Muslims I know are opposed to abortion-on-demand and most would accept abortion only to save the life of the mother. Some Muslims I know would accept early term abortion"for a good reason". Is there one Muslim stand on abortion?

3) All the Muslims I know either are outspoken in rejection of same-sex sex or never talk about it. My understanding is that Islamic moral law rejects all homosexual"genital expression". Is this true?

All the Muslims I know want to help people with AIDS ,especially children and "innocent wives". Some say that there is less AIDS in Muslim countries because sexual promiscuity is greatly discouraged.

4) I have never discussed euthanasia with a Muslim, but my conjecture would be that Muslim moral law would oppose it.
All the Muslims I know condemn suicide bombing as sacriledge and murderously sinful and say that the Quran and Haddith forbid this murder of non combatants and women and children . I have never discussed "ordinary suicide' with a Muslim but my speculation is that Islamic moral law would discourage it as much as Jewish and Christian morality does.

45) I have never heared about or discussed the morality of organ transplants with a Muslim. It never occurred to me that Muslims would object to something that saves lives without any obvious moral violation(like distributing condoms could be seen as immoral and encouraging fornication and adultery). However, there are transplants from animals ,including pigs and other unkosher animals.

Thank you for asking these questions.
