Provided your calluses are built sufficiently and a chord book for banjo is available you can learn to play simple songs. As everything, it takes years of practice and study to become truly proficient in anything--including playing the banjo.

i have been playing the guitar for 2 years now,and i am just now good sooo seeing as a banjo is close to a guitar i would say about two years of practise
