I support cheerleading as a sport.

You have tryouts, work out, practice sessions, competitions and games like any other sport.

Its a sport.

cheerleading is a sport!! I've been a cheerleader for the last 7 years, and it's my life. It takes SO much dedication and time. We practice 4 times a week and go to the gym twice a week. Even on my off days I still practice & work out. I HATE it when guys say that cheerleading isn't a sport because it's A LOT more work than any other thing I've done...I used to play soccer and it wasn't nearly as tiring and time consuming as cheerleading. We're working as a team and competing with other teams. Sounds like football, right? It's a VERY physical activity.

You're both right. At one time, it was just a jump and kick routine for pretty blue eyes blondes. But over the years, it's become an athletic event with competitions, and routines require ability, timing, flexibiity, and ingenuity. It is not, however, a contact sport or a sport with designated positions.

You are right Mark ... cheerleading is a social thing, certainly NOT a sport.

Relax, cheerleader. I dunno. At first I was going to agree with you. But you have to LOOK a certain way to do it...unlike football, basketball and soccer, where the ONLY thing that means anything is ability and hard work.

So, maybe it's more of a "sport that only allows the good looking people". K?

A sport is defined by the "I asked my mom and this is what she told me dictionary" as any competition in which the men are BETTER than the women. This makes cheerleading NOT a sport.
