.If he places marriage before a career - he is a fool and you should have no business with this dude - other than sympathy.

Depending on the guy, this could actually mean a couple of things.
If he's a straight-forward guy who is not a player or into game-playing, take whatever he says at face value. In other words, yes, he wants to get married. Is he inferring he might want to marry you? Don't read anything into the statement, just take it as a statement.
If he's a player and you know he dates a lot of girls, then he's fishing. He sees you as the kind of girl who is wanting marriage and thinking that this will get you interested in him.
Are you interested in this guy?
Do you think he is someone you might want to marry based on the little you know about him?
Be careful. Take your time and get to know him better before setting your hopes that he is "the one."
Most nice guys looking for a wife don't just blurt this stuff out to girls they hardly know, whereas the "catch and release guys" use this approach quite frequently. They are also more likely to say they love you within the first couple of dates, reeling you in all the time. As soon as they know they have you hooked, off they'll go on the next fishing expedition, leaving you wondering why their words are not matching their actions.
You might want to ask around the gym, and see if anyone has already fallen for this guy only to be tossed back in the water dazed and confused.

He's trying to make a good impression and tell you a little bit about himself at the same time. By saying that, he's proclaiming "I'm available and interested in finding a long-term relationship with someone I can settle down with". Obviously, he wants you to know that he's a decent guy and not a player.

If I just met a girl and I said that it would be because I thought that is what the girl wanted to here or I really felt a connection between us either way I would try to get a date out of it.

I think it's a little to forward of him to make such a bold statement, when you haven't even gone on a date. Sounds like he's trying to show you he's a "keeper", but he may be the psycho clingy type. I'd be cautious with this guy until you get to know him better.

He's saying that he's not sure what he wants to do as far as a career, but he knows that he DEFINITELY wants to get married.

That sounds kind of weird. Maybe it means that he likes you, or he wants you to think that he likes you and is trying to let you know that he is available and looking. It could be that he is a player. Guys know that girls like guys who "aren't afraid of committment" they are more inclined to open up and trust them
