I think in this case, it refers more to service to the community, as in when people give up their free time and skills to benefit their community - that's certainly how I've interpreted it.
Yes ok, there is community service, as in what can be handed out as a punishment for a crime - but I have yet to see a question in this section related to that subject.
It could be that Yahoo needs to re-class it as "Helping the Community" or something. If you feel strongly enough about it, write to them.

I don't think this section is a reward for criminals. I don't know about the UK, but in the US there ARE people that like to do community service because they WANT to, not because they HAVE to. I think this section is mostly here for those people that do it out of kindness.

OK. Yahoo is an American organis(z)ion. We in the UK would probably use the term "Community Services", as "Community Service" is a pejorative term over here.
But who cares a Tinker's cuss about one little letter between two great nations divided by a common language?

"What we have here is a failure to communicate."
In the US a community service organization (think Kiwanis club, Rotary, Lions Club, Civitan, etc.) is a group of people who organize in an effort to make the communities they live in a better place. They raise money for specific causes in the community and contribute thousands of hours of volunteer labor to make their little corner of the world a better place.
Sounds like a good idea to me.

Because in America it means that you help out around your community because it makes you feel good and helps out the earth and everyone around you. Because you want to help out. Thats why.
