my boyfriend is moving from the uk and im not saying he's coming just to sign on but he needs to leave the house he's renting and so it makes more sense for him to come here now and if he cant find work before he comes here i just wanted to find out if for the first couple of weeks if he can sign on.

"Southern Ireland".... Geez!
I believe that you are entitled to seek employment and to be gainfully employed.
I hope you didn't mean a handout.

If you dont find work im sure your entitled to it , but your not just moving here for that are you , cause thousands of other people have , not that i find it wrong in any way , but this country has been milked dry and people wonder why were cranky , but you as a UK citizen would be more entitled to it due to our new closeness, my rant is not directed at you cauuse i see your struggle , i just dont understand how people who cant speak english , come here claim benefits send them home and rant if they dont get there rent paid , why on earth should we pay taxes for that , rant over lol, i hope it works out for you :)

First of all it is not called southern Ireland, it is called the REPUBLIC OF IRELAND and secondly if you haven't got a job to go to you can sign on dole while you are waiting for something to come up. There are also plenty of training courses for adults that you can apply for.

In southern ireland If you bring a british birth cert or passport you will qualify for Benifit ...even if you have never worked in your life you will Qualify for welfare benifits of about 190 euros a week plus most of your rent will be paid for you..Which is a site better than it is in the uk ....So whats keeping you????

you are as long as you have been paying National Insurance but you may have to inform the benifit officer you are intitled as very often they either pretend or generally dont realise it - you must have enough uk stamps paid however ( I think it is 3 years worth ) . For dentist I think you can claim from the uk but check with the dentist at time if you need one .

I know it's possible to move the pension from country to country within the EU, so other benefits should also be possible. Hold onto your paperwork.
